Guest guest
Hey Janine, > to ME, 'true' means as close to the real thing as it gets. But then again, > we all smell differently. > I've only mostly been aware of the smell of the grandiflorum as a > plant/vine. > So that is the 'true' smell to me. However, I have recently come to meet > the Arabian Jasmine, where the sambac comes from. Actually .. Arabian countries and India .. with more produced in India. And until 1986, Turkey was a major producer. The last Jasmine fields were harvested that year .. they were under the management of a friend of mine .. an agricultural engineer named Namit Mumcuoglu (trivia .. the last name means .. son of the candle maker .. or candle seller). > ooh baby, now THERE is a smell. Tis the one I prefer. > But the difference to me, in oils, is that the J. G. is lighter, not as > heavy. Mebbe .. I like sweet odors so I lean toward the J. sambac. > Let me see if I can ward off a question on that. lol > Heavy smells, cloying, weighing on the air, thick, very strong. > perfumes that come to mind, Obsession, Poison, [yep you're right on that > one!] Opium, Cinnabar, ylang 3, patchouli. And maybe Red Door. I can't > remember really, as I don't wear perfume made by 'them' anymore, I make > my own. Agree with all the above except two .. I think Poison is just that .. and Red Door and Opium should be grounds for divorce. But I prefer Obsession for Men .. and a lady wearing a slight tad of Cinnabar could get me to foller her through a mine field. ;-p > Light smells, for this instance, would not be as light as lemon, but more in > the middle, [staying away from top, middle, bottom notes on purpose] > Light in this class to ME, would be: > Vivid, Charlie, Stetson for men, Cool water for men. Stetson I like .. Old Spice I like a lot .. Charlie .. I think its nice for teenagers but not for adults. > So for me, J. G. is more flowery true, true to the jasmine vine/plant I have > known all my life and not as heavy/cloying. OK. > However, that is not to say sambac is not good! Quite the opposite! Sambac > is VERY nice. It's not my cuppa is all. Understood. Long ago on Idma .. somebody was relating the notes of odors to the notes of music .. fairly nice analogy too .. methinks. Then during the last couple of days .. somebody on Anya's Natural Perfumery List NaturalPerfumery/ was discussing the same subject. There are folks on that list who are very good at describing odors .. I guess it goes with the territory. > Janine Phariss > http://www.BlueSageNaturals.com I think good Kentucky Bourbon smells a bit like Vanilla when its across the room. :-P Y'all keep smiling.
