Concretes

This info I copied from ATC webpage: " Concretes are vegetable

material (eg. bark or root) produced by solvent extraction with a

hydro carbon solvent or similar. This method is used when the

essential oil would be adversely effected by steam. Some essential

oils can be extracted in more than one way. eg lavender can be steam

distilled to produce an essential oil or a concrete can be produced

by solvent extraction. The difference between a concrete and a

resinoid is that concretes are produced from previously living plant

material eg bark, flower, root. A resinoid is produced from dead

organic material, most commonly gum or sap

And here is what they say on Liberty Natural's page: " . " Concrete: A

prepared perfume material extracted from non-resinous or low resinous

natural raw material (almost exclusively of vegetable origin, e.g.

bark, flower, herb, leaf, root, etc.) Concretes are extracted from

previously live tissue, while resinoids are extracted from plant

exudations (not tissue). Concretes are usually solid, waxy, non-

crystalline masses. Like absolutes, concretes can come from chassis

and pommades. "

I have several different, like rose, mimosa (that is truly lovely),

lavender and jasmine, but so far I have only been using them in

perfumery and in some special candles that I have made as gifts. The

concretes I have is in different " shapes " , the mimosa is kind of tiny

crystals, the rose is quite a solid mass and the lavender is jelly

like. They are quite unexpensive, so one can play around with them

without to much damage to ones creditcard :-D

But the question is, other than Liberty Natural, where to get them?

I found a lovely rose concrete at Samara Botane, but haven't seen the

mimosa or Lavender anywhere.

Can anyone recommend sources? I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants

to know. :)

How about here:

http://www.augustus-oils.ltd.uk/products/absolutes.htm

you " only " have tu purchase 1kg (2lb) of each ;-)

Otherwise the only ones I foudn was that Canadian ATC, but I don't

know anything about them at all.

But what wrong with Liberty Natural, exept for their strange way of

pricing their things??

Ylva - I don't think anything would be wrong with purchasing from Liberty

Natural. Based on what someone else on this group said, I would suggest calling

to confirm prices first. I will probably place an order with them this weekend

for floral waxes. They have the most reasonable prices. I inquired about the

concretes as I had not heard of them before. At this point in my crafting

career, I don't think I'd order them only cuz' I con't figure out what I'd use

them for.
