I bought mine at the end of the summer for like $1 it is a phalaenopis or " moth orchid " it looked dead but the lady at the nursery said it would come back, I haven't killed it but nothings happening - I don't have a greenhouse but I do have it under a grow light about 12 hours a day, my house gets no sun and its cool. Guest guest
Wow on the jasmine! Mine has grown way up into an oak tree and has wandered across an herb bed and come up a good 30 feet away. No blooms ever! Wish I knew the secret to getting it to bloom! That's weird. What variety do you have? Does it get at least some sun each day? Do you visit the garden at night, when they are at full bloom? I have about six varieties, and they all bloom, some under adverse conditions. You do have to fertilize occasionally, and water in times of drought, but that's about it. Some of mine are under an oak tree, on a fence, and they meander vigorously, too. One I had forgotten I planted in the front yard started blooming after a year or so, frolicking in the allspice tree and the thyrallis bush. I have some lovely photos of my fragrant plants. I just uploaded two to my Natural Perfumery group, I should upload some here. For the OP who wants to 'dry' the jasmine flowers. I recommend instead you start to infuse them in an oil, like jojoba or coconut. Get a small glass jar, put some oil in it, put the flowers in it for a day or two until they get translucent. Remove the flowers. Keep infusing new flowers. It may take months of flowers, depending on how many you have, but you will get a nice scented oil. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady
Guest guest
I planted my Jasmine about 5 years ago next to my raised deck on a Southern Exposure. It has grown all the way up to the top of the deck and spread down the side. It blooms all summer and has the most delicious, wonderful, exotic smell. I just feed it, love and thank it for gracing my life. I think it is the Southern exposure that makes it grow so much. Warmly, Bobbye , Earthfinds <earthfinds> wrote: > Wow on the jasmine!
