Guest guest
Now that is scary! - WoobeyQueen Thursday, January 08, 2004 7:48 PM YL CRAP!/Not AT This is the letter and answer of the day ********************************** I have an urgent problem. I am a massage therapist and have been working six days a week for the past year. I do a lot of Raindrop Techniques and Aromatherapy massages with several oils on each client. I also often use OrthoEase or Valor on other clients. I also do many, many massages with just plain, unscented almond oil. In the past I have had rashes on my left thumb and forefinger area from using lotions--namely AlbaBotanica and Biotone (hyperallergenic). When I switched to almond oil, I seemed to have no problem...except occassionally about 8-10 hours after doing a Raindrop, my hands would itch a lot. On October 7th I was in a relatively minor car accident, and almost immediately both my hands (the backs of them) began to break in an itchy rash that sometimes had tiny blisters. A dermatology specialist believes the rash is from the shock, trauma and stress of the car accident and following problematic circumstances in my life. My naturapathic physician is leaning more towards thinking that I have somehow become sensitized to the Young Living Essential Oils. Now, to me that is a horrible thought because I dearly love the oils and love using them with clients. For whatever reason, on New Year's Eve they broke out " wildly " and the palm of the left hand even became more involved with big blisters, some with clear liquid, some with blood, and some with pus. The left hand swelled and I could not bend my fingers for about three days. It was very hot (actually both were) and a lymph node near my left elbow became very tender and very swollen. Things are doing better with lots of natural things used, but the doctors are pushing me to use steroids. I would rather recover without them if possible, but the question may still remain if I can ever use the oils again, or if they might not even be the problem! I surely hope not. I need to have some help knowing if any other therapists or people have had extensive problems with the oils, or just with their hands from doing massage, if they got over it, what they did etc. etc. At the moment I cannot work at all and am even running a temperature. If you need or want to use medical terms, please write to me off-list ANSWER: YL crap in its purest form I too am a massage therapist and have to say that I was horrified to find out that all of these oils that are marketing to LMT¹s are filled with chemicals! Of course the practitioner is also being affected because we are applying the oils this is why I went to using YL products. I use a base oil of organic olive oil or almond oil with no side effects because these are pure, natural substances. Your hands are trying to release the chemicals from the lotions you used. My hands took about a year to return to normal, they became very scaly and rough just keep using the YL oils along with olive or almond oil and you will be fine. You also have to look at your diet and other products that you put on your body. The body becomes confused I believe when you use YL oils, the body tries to eliminate, then you use a product with garbage in it. The body is constantly trying to return to homeostasis but at the same time is being bombarded with chemicals. Once you get cleaned out, you will be in perfect health, your hands will return to normal along with the rest of your system. Just give it time! *************************************** Cheers! Guest guest
Amen, sister, amen - be HEALED!! :-) Really, sensitization is a risk we aromatherapists run when working with EO's...much like anyone who deals with chemicals of any sort...ours are just NATURAL. I learned REAL quick how powerful (both for good & bad) EO's can be...just have a smidge of cinnamon bark oil on your hand and rub your face not thinking about it...you'll remember! And my favorite line used by my cousin who is a chemist when someone touted the safety of their product because it was " all natural " was: " And poison ivy is all natural too - would you rub that all over your face? " LOL!! Blessings, Doreen - WoobeyQueen Thursday, January 08, 2004 8:04 PM Re: YL CRAP!/Not AT In a message dated 1/8/2004 5:43:47 PM Pacific Standard Time, celtic_selky writes: > Now that is scary! Guest guest
And I always say snake bites are NATURAL too, but that doesn't mean it is GOOD for you. Guest guest
I came across a piece of 'advice' from a site: Always keep a bottle of (their) vegetable oil mix handy. If skin irritation occurs (from the use of one of their massage oils) vegetable oil dilutes the essential oils. Would this be true or is it more SOS, different person/entity? This was not a YL site. Guest guest
YL is crap. Too bad we can't flush the company down the toilet where it belongs. High note of my day today (so far). I got a link request from someone who's site description reads " Buy Young Living Essential oils and aromatherpy products " . I don't think so Buckwheat. HUMPH!! Guest guest
Actually, that is a good piece of advice. If you get some aggressive oil on you, say cinnamon bark, you can flush the area with vegetable oil. It does work - I know first hand! If you don't have vegetable oil, you can use milk.
