OT: Rudolph's Nose

A holiday message from Father Leo Booth (and semi famous

Episcopalian/Metaphysical minister/motivational speaker who is best

known for helping folks overcome all sorts of addictions, after he

himself overcame alcoholism a good number of years ago) ... I figured

I'd pass it on since it might touch some people in a good way

In my book Treasures, I wrote about Rudolph's nose. Maybe you would take

time to really read it and experience the power of miracle in God's

love.

 

 

 

I used to wonder why I had tears come to my eyes when I sang " Rudolph

the Red-Nosed Reindeer " at Christmas time. Everybody else was laughing

or smiling, while I had a tear. Of course, now I know. The song is about

me. It is about anybody who ever felt different. I suspect this song is

about you.

 

Rudolph was different. He had a red nose. The song does not say it was a

big nose. Just a red nose. Very red. Not only was it red, it was shiny.

The other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. Imagine what they

must have called him; " Schnoz. " " Fireball " And the jokes they must have

told at his expense: " Rudolph's nose is so red? " " How red is it? " " It's

so red, cars think he's a stop light! "

 

But what about you and me? Why did I have a tear? Why did I cry and feel

an affinity for Rudolph?

 

Growing up, I had a stammer. I stuttered. I could not pronounce words

clearly. I knew them. I saw them coming out of my head. But I could not

say them. And my friends laughed at me When I became a drunk, people

laughed at me. And called me names. I was ashamed-of myself.

 

Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say

 

I heard a voice. My destiny. " You are more than your stammer. You are

more than your alcoholism. You are more. "

 

What about you? You are reading this, but what are you thinking about?

.. a crazy relationship

.. drugs

.. where the next paycheck is coming from

.. loneliness

.. realizing your life is empty

 

What are you thinking about? Because you, I suspect, are also like

Rudolph. Have you heard the voice that tells you, " You are more, "

 

Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight...

 

Go to the front. Believe in yourself. Let your light shine. The thing

that you think is so terrible will take you to glory. My name is Leo. I

am an alcoholic. And I am more. I am free. I am seeing the world. Don't

think small!

 

Then how the reindeer loved him...

 

Is that not just the way it is with fair weather friends? They are

influenced by your energy. When you do it, you become it. And people

around you applaud. Believe in yourself. This is Life's message. Hear

the call of Spirit, " You are more. "
