Gea, Buy him some Hickory Farms. That will help with his pot smoking

munchies. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Seriously I haven't got a clue. I think you letting him stay at your house

for 3 weeks should be present enough, and having the patience to deal with him.

I think I would tell him to go and shower. He is a guest in your home and he

need not stink it up. If he doesn't like it, set a cot up for him outside.

Good luck to you, and hopefully someone will come up with a suitable gift for

him.

Hi all,

I could use some help with a gift suggestion for my brother in law.

He is visiting and it has only been 4 days, but I am getting

stressed, I feel guilty - so many have no family.

He is a 45 year old bacholor, smokes pot all day(not in my house!)

eats candy by the pound & lays on my couch, even though my daughter

gave up her room- hates my dogs, something happened to my 3lb little

guy yesterday, I came into the room and the normally happy, playful

little guy was hiding in the corner whimpering. I know not everyone

likes dogs, but they live here and I am trying to keep them away from

him, but they are used to being allowed on the couch.

I am stuck with him as hubby works 15 hour days, he's depressed and

won't leave the house because everyone has families ,

responsibilities, work- he thought my husband was going to take off

work for 3 weeks while he is here, He can't I can hardly afford the

extra food for him and and haven't even gotten gifts for my kids yet.

At first I thought it was jet lag but hes getting worse, he doesn't

like me, makes fun of me, I am being nice to him he brought

pictures of his grandfather who was a advisor to FDR and I asked if I

could make a copy he told me keep the *##* thing- so out went my idea

of making him a photo album - kinda like a family tree sorta thing.

My kids are on me about a nice gift for him, and I am lost, he

laughed at my aromatherapy so no soaps or stuff like that- besides it

has been 4 days and he is still wearing the same clothes and hasn't

bathed, so what do you get a person like this- DH is no help he is

ignoring the tension and keeps telling me its only 3 weeks and I have

to be grateful to him for spending $ to come visit.

Help- I am trying- also any diffuser suggestions to get rid of odors.

I would make him the photo album . He would probably be happy that you

put so much thought into it. It would also included him as part of the

family bringing out the holiday spirit.

Here's some cookie & candies you can make for him.

Oh many of you came up with ideas better than me.

My gift to him, if I knew he hurt my child or animal would be

jail. Of course during withdrawal sugar helps too!

Sugar, pot smokers, never have enough sugar.

If you have access to a nanny cam, set it up so you can

see what goes on in the living room when you are not there.

Can ya tell I have a totally trusting, loving, holiday spirit.

Love him but I don't trust him from clear across the country.

Good luck you are much kinder than I am. My house, my rules,

don't like it, there are lots of motels, that have smoking rooms and cable.

Thanks guys,

Why am I putting up with this? it has been 10 years since he has been

back home and for a reason, I lost it after a 6week visit and I have

been blamed ever since for him not coming home.

I feel very strongly that my kids believe it is a time to give, so I

have to set the example I " preach " - it has sank into my kids and all

they want is for Uncle to have a happy holiday , my kids are so

sweet, all they see is the good.

Watching the news -I can't help to think about all the service people

who won't be with their families, they have the right to complain,

not me. Uncle would never hurt my kids, and the dogs well I put in

them in the kitchen with treats and toys and extra kisses:)

I certainly don't know all the answers, but what if you all sat down and

discussed the situation? At least everyone could voice their opinion and

maybe clear the air????

I forgot to mention the gift thing: How about personal grooming items,

house shoes, T-shirts, etc?

I ditto that sentiment X10.

I am so very sorry that at what should be a joyous time of enjoying family,

you are under added stress. You are much more gracious than I would be, Gea.

But I lived with miserable selfish people until I was 36. I have

no...none...not a remote bit of patience, for it whatsoever. A gift from me

would be a one way ticket to SOMEWHERE else, leaving yesterday.
