Guest guest
Hi there, I would like to add some extra nourishment to some soap that I am rebatching and want to make a vanilla scented oil.. Should I cut the Vanilla bean into segments? and what would be a good amount of Olive oil to use with what amount of a bean? Also, how long will my infusion last? Thanks a bunch, Stephanie Heaven's Dream Dairy Goats Alabama
Guest guest
Hi Stephanie, I infuse vanilla beans in all sorts of materials (oil, alcohol, sheabutter - even beeswax lol), my favorite is in VODCC - ohhh yummy. But I would not use olive oil for infusing due to it's smell, but rather chose jojoba for it's shelf life (and the exelent properties). This is what I do, one real good vanilla bean (I have some extraordinary Madagascar beans) cut in bit's and split open. Take a small teaspoon or tha back of the knife and scrape out the seeds. Put both pod and seeds in a glass jar, fill it with oil (hmm, I think I use like 5oz oil to one pod) and screw the lid on tightly. I use the db system on the stove, works just fine at get's a quicker result than the solar method. So I put the glassjar in a small pan on top of a caning ring (sp) or like I use, a piece of metallic net doubled over, so the bottom of the jar don't sit directely on the bottom of the pan. Then add water so it at least cover the level of the oil in the jar, even better, up to the level just beneath the lid (but then you have to weight down the jar with something to keep it from floating up). Put it on the stove on low heat and let it simmer there for 3-4 hours (sometimes I do it longer), add water when the level sinks. Take the jar out and let it cool down (with the lid still on). And voilá - then you have the yummiest vanilla oil that your can use in all sorts of products. Good Luck!! Fragrant Blessings, Ylva

Guest guest
Hi Ylva, My first post here. Your vanilla infused oil sounds so yummy that it's bringing this lurker out of lurkdom. Could you recommend a good online source for vanilla beans in the US if you know of one? Thank you! , " ruby_mama2001 " <ruby_mama2001> wrote: > Hi Stephanie, > I infuse vanilla beans in all sorts of materials (oil, alcohol, > sheabutter - even beeswax lol), my favorite is in VODCC - ohhh yummy. > But I would not use olive oil for infusing due to it's smell, but > rather chose jojoba for it's shelf life (and the exelent properties). > This is what I do, one real good vanilla bean (I have some > extraordinary Madagascar beans) cut in bit's and split open. Guest guest
Hi, In the past couple of weeks I've made Vanilla/Sandlewood Soap. The first I infused the vanilla bean in FCO and it was wonderful. The last I infused the vanilla bean in Olive Oil. I think I got more scent with the FCO. I put the whole bean in the blender and really ground it up and used the whole thing in the soap instead of just the little seeds. When I got my soap to trace with no lye left, I added the 4 oz infused oil and EO's. Both batches are really, really nice. These were my first attempts.
