Organic Colours - Ylva, Maybe You Know About This

I have gotten a sample of a bath product from Norway that claims the

coloring agents it uses are all organic and not FD & C dyes. Now these

colors are amazingly vibrant, like FD & C colorings are. They will turn a

whole tub of water brilliant shades of blue, green, red, violet, etc ...

Vibrant colors like this are not something I have seen readily available

in the US without the use of synthetic FD & C dyes. Is this something

widely available abroad? I ask half believing it can be real because I

know in Japan they make plastics from vegetable matter that is

bio-degradable, non-toxic and all the other bad stuff that comes along

with what we in America think of as plastic, and you can't readily get

the veggie based plastics here either ... I'm getting more info from the

folks who manufacture this product, but I wanted to get a little more

insight from someone other than the company if possible ;)

Thanks!

Chris - now you realy have me stomped here. I must confess - I have

never ever heard of anything like this over here. If there was this

kind colorings to get here, I would buy some at onde ;-)

I have looked for natural ways to color soaps and bathsalts, but

found none like the ones you are writing about. Hmm, but the

Norweigans are strange in many ways ;-P (wawing ti Heidi and all the

other gals)so maybee they have kept this amazing finds from us?? Or -

they have got hold of the secret ways from Japan?

I just have to ask on my Nordic group I'm on if they ever heard of

this. I'll get back when and if I get any answers.

Chris, could they be oxides? I don't use them myself, b/c althought they

are touted as natural, my understanding is that most of what you can get out

there are synthetic oxides. But they can be very bright, I have seen soap

made with the green and blue.

Now, they could also be extracts from nature, say beet juice for the red?

Don't know much about this or even if they are available but I know the

powder is.

I don't think they are oxides, or things like beet powder. These colors

are seriously intense - red is RED like Crayola crayon red! And they

have 9 colors available. I'm still waiting to hear back from the company

about this. As I find out more I'll let you know!

And Ylva, thanks for asking around for me :)
