Guest guest
Since the weather dropped down to 60 in Miami :-), I'm staying in and doing major house cleaning. To provide a drone in the background, I've been listening to the PBS-TV pledge programs. They have a lady, Laura DePriest, author of Natural Beauty (both a newsletter and a book ) (and a smaller book " Aromatherapy Decoder " ) on, sharing home beauty recipes. This woman is dangerous, absolutely dangerous. It is a shame to see such poor information being given out about EOs, and worse, the thought that people may be harmed by her " advice. " Just one example: put lemon oil on a cotton ball and wipe on the face to combat acne. If anyone reads this while the pledge is still on, or if you have seen it, maybe you, like me, will write and/or call PBS and voice your objections to this dangerous, incompetent advice being given out. It's always a battle, isn't it? The dissemination of incorrect, dangerous information is one of the biggest downfalls of aromatherapy today. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady

I actually thought it was national, not local, since there was an 800 number, and the hostesses weren't anyone I recognized. The address for PBS is just http://www.pbs.org and I'm going to write them shortly. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady

Well, Sevi, with my lack of attention, I spelled her name wrong: it's DuPriest, and I googled the following: http://tinyurl.com/x3cq My only excuse is that I was in the middle of a cleaning frenzy, and only catching glimpses of what she was doing/saying. Oh, here's something I remember that is as bad as the advice to apply lemon EO directly, undiluted to the skin: she had the two hostesses hold out their hands, and she shook some oils (lavender? not sure) onto their palms, and told them to rub their hands together and inhale, since inhalation is the most common manner to use EOs. I can only imagine the people who ran to the local health food store, got some lemon oil and smeared it on their acne (already open skin, usually, if the acne 'heads' have broken) and those who are shaking eucalyptus, orange, bergamot, lavender- whatever - onto their skin. Oh, I just remembered, she also shook oils onto their forearms! Man, I'm having flashbacks now that I think about it. This woman needs to be stopped, as she has millions who viewed her during the fundraising/pledge show, and it will be repeated on other stations, endangering the folks who follow her advice and harming the reputation of aromatherapy (if any sue due to damage). http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady
Guest guest
Hi Anya, Got you about the last name. Cleaning can do that ;-) Thanks much -- I found her website http://www.lauradupriest.com " She has more than 20 years of experience as a beauty expert " -- Here we go with yet another " expert " . I would say unbelievable, but I won't, after all I hear these stories all day long -- mostly about animals, which drives me almost near insanity, but hearing about lemon on human face made me nearly as upset. I will dig more info when I get a chance. Thanks again for the info.
