Guest guest
Hey Jen, > While I was sharing my yummy turkish rose otto with a friend the other > day, she asked why they don't make rose oil out of the hybrid teas > that smell so lovely. I had no answer. Can you Rose-experts clue us > in? > JenB Not sure which Hybrid Tea she's talking about .. though totally there are over 6,000 types of roses if we deal down to cultivars. IF a Rose has an essential oil in it .. all don't .. then we could distill it .. but maybe not on a basis of economic feasibility .. so we would need to look at the Botanical Name and then on down to the cultivar. Mainly, Rosa damascena and Rosa centifolia are the sources for Rose Oil because they are the most yielding and the best odor. And it is in an around the fields growing these roses that we find the stills .. though it could have been the other way around to begin with. ;-p I know many fine smelling plants that yield no essential oils .. so we gotta reckon the ancients decided which roses were best. Y'all keep smiling. Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
