Guest guest
Hey y'all, I'm posting above this cause there's no need to post twixt the lines .. and I'm leaving the messages below intact cause I wanna do so. ;-p We can find all kinds of URLs that tell us how to convert this to that but we can't find one that tells us how to convert apples to oranges or monkeys to bird dawgs or feet to pounds .. or weights to measures. Because we Americans insist on using an antiquated system we often get confused on weights and measures .. if we used the metric system we could avoid that confusion. Most American dictionaries have a section in the back that lists all the various weights and measures. Fluid ounces ........ is a Measure .. 1 fluid oz = 29.573 ml Avoir ounces ........ is a Weight ... 1 Avoir oz = 28.35 grams That tells us that millimeters are also measures and grams are weight. A 10 ml bottle will hold the same amount of pure water and molten lead, and the pure water will weigh exactly 10 grams .. but the molten lead might weigh 70 or 80 grams .. depends on the density. Why will 10 ml of pure water weigh 10 grams? Because pure water is the standard used by man as a starting point for determining conversion of densities in order to convert weights to measures. Thus, pure water has been assigned a factor of " 1 " .. but almost every other liquid in the world .. to include sea water and essential oils .. will have a plus or minus 1 density. So .. if we wanna do the math to convert weights to measures we gotta know the density of what we're converting. Science hasn't yet figgered how to convert the other things I listed. Though I have met 4-5 people in my life who have proven that nice people can be converted to instant a.holes .. just add alcohol. ;-p Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com ---------------- > Everyone I know who has ever sold liquids by the dram has sold the > contents of the bottle by volume - 3.5 ml is the standard measure for a > dram ... and a ml is by definition a volume measure.
