The article is at (if line-breaks have been inserted, you'll have to

cut & paste this to a single line to use as an URL):

Title: " When Trouble Hits Those Holes in Your Head " , by Jane E.

Brody, NYTimes, Tuesday, March 15, 2005.

A google search on the author shows impressive credentials, and

another URL provides an index of all her NYTimes articles:

As I mentioned also a while back, spending time scanning (quality)

health & medicine reviews often is rewarding, in at least two ways.

1) Helping inform patients of the status quo of medical know-how

relating to their conditions. Unfortunately, many MD's, caught in the

pincers of hospital-, insurance-, and pharma- " industrialization " and

" optimization " , have long since forgotten the role of " doctor " as

" teacher " (the meaning of the Greek word).

2) Surprisingly often, one can find correlation between the Western

understanding of a condition (when expressed in intelligible terms)

and various of the Chinese diagnostic frameworks. And at times, the

Chinese framework can make (for us and possibly for the patients)

better sense, and can lead to more effective treatment principles,

modalities and prescriptions.

As I've also noted before (not to be pedantic, but just to note that

I'm aware of the repetition), the human body does not read the books

or seek to conform to either WM concepts of physio-pathology, nor to

classical Chinese viewpoints. But by roaming back and forth between

these perspectives, a more vivid sense of the medical realities

sometimes emerges.
