Guest guest
Hi Karen, Myabe saturate would be a better term than suffuse. We want the moxa heat and properites to go deeper than just the skin level. I liken the sensation to coming inside on a cold day and standing in front of a fire place. The heat starts at the surface and eventually you feel warm inside as well. That's what we want to happen in the local areas to which we apply the moxa. About the possible C7-T1 issue I have a few TCM techniques to offer. 1) Put a needle in Du 14 and needle Jia-ji points C7, T1, T2 bilaterally. Apply needle moxa to each needle. 2) Needle SI 16, GB 20 and Jia-ji T3. Attach Positive leads to SI 16, and GB 20 and ground both to Jia-ji T3. Apply for 15 minutes. 3) Needle SJ 15 bilaterally. Using a single output cord, attach an electrode to eachneedle . Apply for one minute and reverse polarity. Do this 5 to 10 times. 4) One cun directly below GB 20 is an extraordinary point that one of my instructors called " Neck needles " . He used a 4 " needle and connected them. I elected not to be a hero and use a 1.5 inch needle for each GB 20. He applied strong stimulation 10 to 15 seconds at a time about every 5 minutes for about 30 minutes. NOTE: strong stimulation doesn't mean big or violent. Listen to your fingertips and your patient's voice. After application of any of these techniques moving cup or tuin-na can be used in the area.
