Chen Ke-Ji is a professor at China Academy of in Beijing

(Zhong Guo Zhong Yi Yan Jiu Yuan), and is one of the most famous CM

practitioners and researchers in China today. I have never met a Chinese

practitioner of Chinese medicine that hasn't heard of him. I actually

studied with him for a year back in 1998-1999 and was going to be his Ph.D.

student, but the air in Beijing forced me to leave (I had chronic bronchitis

almost the entire time I was there!). He is originally an MD, but began

studying CM immediately after completing his Western med education about 40

years ago. He is formidable is both WM and CM, and primarily researches

blood invigorating herbs for cardiovascular conditions (he's a

cardiovascular specialist).

I would say he has a very level-headed perspective of CM and I have a ton of

respect for him. He is big on integration of WM and CM, but he has not

forgone classical CM by any means. In fact, he is one of the few people in

China (read, the world) with access to the Forbidden City's medical record

library, and has written several books about the treatment records of the

Tai-Yi (imperial doctors) and their treatment of the emperors. Very

interesting stuff, and in fact one of these has been translated, if I

remember correctly. So while he has done a lot to pioneer research in CM and

integration with WM, he still puts in copious amounts of time into classical

research. He's also great in the clinic. What more could you want? I am

still bummed that I had to leave Beijing and didn't get to complete my

studies with him, but I couldn't sacrifice my own health for it.

In any case, his opinion is well worth listening to, in my opinion. :-)

Best wishes,

Greg

>>>Thanks for the info, Greg.

I did a literature search on him in Chinese and English and came up with a

staggering 153 search results = articles authored by Chen Ke-Ji. Most of

these articles are on integrative medicine. He seems to have written a book

Selected Medical Works by Ke-ji Chen--Life at Seventy " (in Chinese) which is

very much appreciated by his colleagues.

Here is some info on him in English:

He has written a case study book that one can find all over China:

and here's the imperial medicaments book:
