Guest guest
Hi all, In the 5 Element style it is recommended that after you have been in practice a couple of years that you can if you wish treat only on the left side if you are tonifying and right if you are sedating. Since a person's Constitutional Element is always in need of tonification you are mostly using the left side of the body. This was explained as you are trying to access the Spirit of the Point as opposed in the TCM style where you are working at the level of substance, once you have the Spirit of the Point you have it - and doing it twice does not change things. I particularly like anything that involves less needles and produces the same result. Gye Hi all I was curious what the modern take on treating points on both sides of the body? My books on the subject all have differing opinions. Guest guest
Jaimye, The reason different books has differing opinions is that compared with Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxabustion have a wide variety of styles and approaches that often seem contradictory, but are just different ways of reaching the goal of balancing the channels and improving health. Guest guest
Gye, 1) what do you mean by 'spirit of the point'? 2) how is treating the left side supplementing, the right side draining? 3) what do you mean by TCM acupuncture treating 'substance'? 4) what result are you trying to obtain?
