hello-

i have a prospective patient who has both a fibroid and a cyst that are 6cm

( " grapefruits, "

says the doctor). of course her doctor recommends surgery, but she is hoping

for an

alternative. however, i have read in Giovanni's gynecology book that only small

(<2cm)

masses can be dispersed. has anyone experienced otherwise? is it dangerous for

her to hold

off on the surgery while we treat with acu & herbs? any input would be welcome.

thank you,

fiamma

The uterine fibroids are not likely to shrink. You have to find out

what the chief complaints caused by the gynecological problem are. If

she feels bloated and has stabbing pains, for instance, you give her

herbs to treat that. There's no harm in waiting, but if she is

bleeding very heavily from the fibroid you shuld definitely be careful

not to give her blood movers right before her period. Give her stop

bleeding herbs or Yunnan Bai Yao. Also, in rare cases a fibroid can

grow on a stalk and twist-in that case ofcourse she needs intervention

right away. The doctor should have informed her of the nature of the

fibroids, and where in the tissue they are. Ovarian cysts are ok,

unless they rupture-then the pain is intense, but surgery will not

alleviate the pain of the ruptured cyst. The body just needs to

reabsorb it. If she has had cysts rupture before, adjust your herbal

formula accordingly. (I would personally not use Ziao Jiao Ci)
