Guest guest
I discovered that tonic water works for treating the early stages of 'flu', and was wondering if anyone on the list can comment on the nature and properties of quinine from a TCM perspective? It seems to work at the same point that Yin Qiao does. Thanks, Mark

It seems to work at the same point that Yin > Qiao does. Quinine is a major alkaloid in cinchona bark, which is listed in the Chinese zhong yao da ci dian. Its entry is brief. It is described as cold, slightly acrid, and slightly toxic. It resolves heat and treats malarial diseases, and is indicated for malaria and contraindicated in pregnancy. That's the extent of the entry from the core TCM section. Eric Brand
