Tonic Water/Quinine For Flu

I discovered that tonic water works for treating the early stages of 'flu', and

was wondering if anyone on the list can comment on the nature and properties of

quinine from a TCM perspective? It seems to work at the same point that Yin

Qiao does.

Quinine is a major alkaloid in cinchona bark, which is listed in the

Chinese zhong yao da ci dian. Its entry is brief. It is described as

cold, slightly acrid, and slightly toxic. It resolves heat and treats

malarial diseases, and is indicated for malaria and contraindicated in

pregnancy. That's the extent of the entry from the core TCM section.
