Guest guest
Alon and Mike, I billed the old code only because I thought another acupuncturist said WC was still using the old codes. They definitely paid $52 for 97780. They paid $70.11 for 97801 (also an old code, for electroacupuncture) and they paid my full fee on the first visit of $57 for 99202. I'm not complaining too much just wondering if I'm missing out on higher remuneration. What are others billing? Thanks for your replies, Marian Alon Marcus <alonmarcus wrote: are you sure it was the 97780 code. If memory serves me the WC code is a 97801. 97780 is a CPT code and WC usually will not pay Mike W. Curious as to why you are billing with the old code still. Is the state slow in updating its database with newer codes? Guest guest
Here is some info off of Acu-Care website: NEW PATIENT EVALUATION MANAGEMENT • 99203 Initial Visit Moderate Severity $64.35 • 99204 Initial Visit to High Severity $92.24 ACUPUNCTURE • 97800 Acupuncture by Manual Stimulation $54.74 • 97801 Electro-Acupuncture $73.80 • 97802 Cupping $19.07 • 97803 Moxibustion $19.07 PHYSICAL MEDICINE • 97010 Hot Packs $18.45 • 97124 Massage $22.14 Hope this helps. Guest guest
Mike Thanks for posting this. Is it true that you cannot bill a treatment modality on the same date as a new patient evaluation? Or can you? Turiya Hill

Have you a link to or a listing of the new codes? I was looking at something in Acupuncture Today a year or so ago that made no sense at all. It seems like a simple grid chart would do it, theirs had all kinds of percentages and what all. I asked for a clarification and the reply was even more confusing. Intentional confusion, change for change's sake. Regards, Pete
Guest guest
Turiya, Never heard that one before. Unless CA work comp laws have changed this, I do not think this is a problem. I know that they have changed in many ways since I was in practice there years ago. You would need to contact them or take a seminar. I suggest you contact me offlist for the name of an individual in the LA area. I think he presents in SD as well. Hope this helps. Mike W. Hi Mike, Turiya! I have heard this as well in the past, but I think it is ok now. I have also heard recently that you have to bill within 35 days of service or you are denied.
