Is there anyone who could enlighten me on the difference between

Traditional Chinese Medicin (the acupuncture part) and Classical

Acupuncture (not Classical Five Element Acupuncture (Worsley))?

Ie. post Mao. CA - pre Mao?

My understanding is the distinction between TCM and Classical Chinese

Medicine is TCM is post Mao, while Classical is Pre-Mao. The Classical

medicine deals much more with spirit issues and other things edited out

by the communists. TCM is completely standardized and is largely a

herbal based medicine with simple acupuncture and meridian theory.

While Classical Chinese medicine goes much deeper into meridian theory,

acupuncture energetics etc. and is not as standardized. Classical also

deals strongly with herbs, but incorporates spiritual properties to many

of them. Classical Chinese medicine is much heavier into Taoism, while

TCM is much more secular.

Jeffery Yuen is a Classical Chinese medicine teacher. One could study

under him for a lifetime and only scratch the surface of what that man

knows.

Hi Thomas,

I'll take a stab.

Classical Acupuncture is from the classics: Su Wen, Ling Shu, Nan Jing, Jia

Yi Jing, Da Cheng. They are systems based on channels and collaterals.

TCM is post Mao era medicine based largely on herbal pradigms of Ba Gang,

Zang Fu, 6 channels diagnosis, etc.
