Guest guest
Timothy, needling into a scar would not create an infection, any more than needling into any other part of the body. Ofcourse you don't want to needle into a healing wound, but this is different. I agree with Dr Holmes thta Matsumoto's work is helpful in this respect. Sometimes though, if the scar is super painful, even superficial needling can make the pain worse. Matsumoto suggests the use of a tiger warmer, a device that shields the moxa stick from direct contact with the skin. This would be after using the Metal and Water points to calm inflammation. Once I tried to deal with a scar that was directly on the DU meridian. Holmes, any idea what distal points to use with a case like that? Guest guest
I am not sure if you want other comments or just Dr. Holmes on this one but here goes. I treated a patient with a lower cervical scar on Du channel that was the result of not one but two cervical fusions. One went well and the other was a nightmare. As this gentleman was a contractor and self-employed it was hard to get him to slow down. I treated his scar with direct moxa and it really helped to heal the actual scar and bring relief to his limb pain as well. Mike W.
