" Tom, the iodine procedure is used when aseptic technique is called for: in the collection of Blood cultures, in the accessing of VADs (venous accessing devices such as ports), and probably for the collection of spinal fluid. Iodine is a mess and some patients are allergic to it, so I'm not suggesting this is the way to go. I just offer it up for everyone's consideration.
