I agree with Alon. Even if it COULD sterilise the superficial (surface

epithelial) layer of the skin, alcohol wipes probably have no effect on the

staphs, streps, etc deep in the sweat / sebacious glands.

IMO, the ritual alcohol wipe is a public relations exercise only, and it is

irrelevant in 99% of cases.

HOWEVER, if an acupuncturist is unlucky enough to have a patient

who develops sepsis or septicaemia after acupuncture, damning

questions that lawyers will ask will be: " DId the acupuncturist use

aseptic methods, and did he/she use single-use needles straight from a

sterile pack?

That said, use alcohol wipes only on children and very fussy adults.

Touch wood, in >30 years of using acupuncture in humans, I have not

had one case of serious infection due to needling.

I use disposable ( " single-use " ) needles only, and do NOT attempt to

sterilise needles for re-use in humans.

I agree with you Phil,in the last 35 years av using acupuncture I never had

one case av infection due to needling .28 years i used sterilised needels(

for re-use ). Only the last 7 years i use single-use needles.

There has bin sometimes an alergic reaction, but this lasts only some hours

to disappear.
