Guest guest
It's your choice, Robert. And maybe your leaving the group at this time has to do with things beyond the posts of the last few days. But still, I want to ask, for the sake of the group's integrity, where have the moderators been these last few days? It's very unfortunate that this group has allowed a member to be smeared by another member in such a nasty way. I'm offended and angry. ---RoseAnne
Guest guest
Yes Roseanne, Robert never should have been allowed to use such underhanded editing tactics in order to try to " smear " another person in such a deceptive way :-) I could't agree more. Guest guest
Rachel, This may be so. I suggest putting your case to Mark, the list owner who will deal with the situation. Guest guest
Is an enema TCM? :-) Better watch out, sounds western to me. I agree with what you are talking about. What *I* am talking about is taking individual words, cutting them out, and stringing them together in a manner which places each individual word entirely out of context. I'm confident that you aren't referring to that, are you? Please ask your lovely bride what she would think of an individual who did this on the listserv, until he quit rather abruptly. Then ask her what she would say if she found out that this same individual claims to edit medical journals :-) I'm extremely interested in an M.D.'s opinion. Thanks for a good laugh! Guest guest
I did not realize that the cutting and pasting was " edited. " I guess i have not read the post closely. Rachel, at the same time this is not a very " official " setting we just talk to each other in a very casual way. By the way, Robert is quite a good editor and you can read his work at the North American J of Acupuncture (guys correct me if the name is incorrect). He has done some very good work in introducing Japanese style acupuncture to the US. I think we all need to learn not to take things to personally on these lists. My words have been interpreted as attacks to many times even with no such intention. I also think people on the list will do well to hear much of what you say if we are to have an independent profession. To many people feel we cant loose ground we already attained. The resent changes in CA should serve as a warning to all. The advise of a lawyer is just what we need. This discussion highlights the fact that we really do not have an identity or common vision for a profession. Guest guest
This is a major problem for us. Guest guest
Alon and others have pointed out a lack of consensus in our profession about what kind of profession we want to have, or can have. From my point of view, what we really lack is LEADERSHIP. I don't think it's pssible to have a consensus on this issue, but if we had leaders WHO REALLY KNEW HOW TO LEAD, maybe we could get somewhere. People have said that anytime anyone raises these issues to the group everyone goes on the defensive. But I will say that my experience in this group and the CHA group (which is even worse) is that anytime anyone wants to raise these issues they do it through the method of attacking the integrity/intelligence/life choices of those with differing views. How can you build a consensus when the dialogue starts with such a polarizing, aggressive, negative tone? I have noticed this same negative tone with several different professional acupuncture organizations, too. Ugh, such a turn-off, so self-defeating. I have never, in my other walks of professional life, encountered a group of such strange and hostile energy that matches what I have encountered on this and the CHA group. But I really think it has to do with how we are looking at leadership. Isn't there something in Chinese philosophy that says, " the greatest leaders are those whose citizens don't know who they are? " I do appreciate the people who run these lists, I think that energy is serving us in a good way. ---RoseAnne

Guest guest
Hi Roseanne....we absolutely need good, committed leadership! I've heard some AP's put down others who were energetic about organizing and lobbying....implying they can't possibly be effective in the treatment room. Too bad.....but here's a quote... Is not modesty the jewel of the great? Without it, Is not their strut an affliction for the eye to behold? Those men who for others' disgrace and their own feel equally ashamed Are regarded by the world as the abode of modesty. -Tirukkural 102:1014-1015 Excerpted from the Tirukkural, translated by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami.
