Nigel has great stuff on Chinese terminology (Hanzi + Pinyin +

commentary) at:

Unfortunately, those files do NOT allow students to capture digitally the

Hanzi or Pinyin for amalgamation into a database of Chinese

terminology.

 

Nigel's PhD Thesis at

capture of he text (including the Pinyin), but NOT the Hanzi characters.

 

His article on cough at

allows digital capture of the text, including unaccented pinyin, but does

not allow capture of the Hanzi characters.

 

Nigel's " Chinese Medical Terminology: Answers to Buck and Maciocia "

at

allows capture of all text (English and unaccented pinyin, but has no

Hanzi characters.

 

His article " The Naming of Chinese Medicinals in English " at

has accented pinyin, which can be captured, and Hanzi characters

which cannot be captured.

 

In contrast tto the files mentioned above, Nigel's article at

http://www.paradigm-pubs.com/paradigm/refs/wiseman/TAIWAN.htm

allows capture of ALL characters (English, unaccented pinyin AND

Hanzi characters).

 

This shows clearly that (where there is a will to do so) text CAN be

published to allow digital capture of Hanzi, Pinyin AND English.

 

Undoubtedly, we need a comprehensive database of Chinese Medical

Terminology. That database should have at least three copyable fields:

Hanzi characters, Pinyin (accented or unaccented) term and English

term.

 

Nigel's English-Chinese texts are, undoubtedly, the most comprensive

available to date. It would facilitate the use of correct Chinese and

appropriate English terminology if NIgel and Paradigm could be

persuaded to release his texts in editable digital form (English, pinyin

AND Hanzi characters) for public use.

 

Such a magnificent gift whould not, IMO, threaten the income of either

Nigel, or Paradigm and would underpin a quantum leap in the education

and spread of TCM concepts in the western world.
