It situation will revert to the prior requirement for the 2008 biennium. I would like to caution Florida practitioners to read the requirements for acceptance of CEUs. I recently took classes both in and out of Florida with a well known teacher who claimed to be a Florida Provider. Unfortunately he was not and the CEUs are only good for NCCAOM. When I contacted him he was surprised to find out that he was not an approved Provider. I am fortunate that I do not need these CEUs this biennium. Any other biennium and I would have had a problem since this just came to light. Guest guest Posted January 8, 2006 Report Share Posted January 8, 2006 It was my lawsuit that reduced the CEUs since the Florida Dept of Health/Board of Acupuncture were incorrectly/illegally implementing the LAW. Therefore until such time as the Board of Acupuncture got their rules/regs into shape they placed a moratorium on all CEUs for APs in Florida with exception of 2 hrs of HIV/AIDS and 2 hrs. of Medical Errors. At the 12/2/05 Florida Board of Acupuncture meeting in Ft Lauderdale, I chose to step in once again to save the Acupuncture Physician title as the Board was being coerced into repealing one of the old rules affording Florida licensees the title of Acupuncture Physician. At that same meeting, which I might add is generally so poorly attended by licensees, the Executive Director (Dept of Health employee) admitted that the moratorium on 30 CEU hours was not being renewed....therefore the requirements for the 2/29/2008 renewal will be the same as before my lawsuit....which is 5 hrs Laboratory, 3 hrs. Imaging, 2 hrs Florida Laws and Rules, 2 hrs Medical Errors, 2 hrs HIV/.AIDS and 16 hours miscellanous. I have an approved Medical Errors course as an individual provider for the BOA with both an 8 hr CEU course in BaGuaFa (16 hr CEUs pending) and the AOMNC which is also an approved BOA/CE BROKER provider has several courses approved including HIV/AIDS and Russian Scenar Electro Acupuncture. As to being snookered by misleading advertising......it is and always has been the practitioners own repwsonsibility to KNOW what is and what is not approved. After some additional stink we made regarding CE BROKER....the system allowed Florida licensees to look at courses and enter their own legitimate credits FREE. As important and maybe even more important....when it comes to LAWS & RULES.... take a course from someone who KNOWS what they are teaching. There are very few individuals who know the Florida Laws & Rules (456, 457, 64B1) regarding Chapter 457 licensees. This is one course that is in some ways more important than any other for your own protection. One of the MOST important remembrances is that: IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE. Everyone without exception MUST and NEEDS to keep up with the laws and rules and the rules potentially change as much as every three months and sometimes monthly. It is not the requirement of either the Board of Acupuncture nor any of the associations to tell Florida licensees what has changed. Fortunately or unfortunately for those who have no access to the internet......ALL of the information is ON LINE. I would think that the Board would want us honing our skills in our profession. Does anyone know of someone teaching a course on " Palliative Care " ? It is something that we do as Acupuncturists but I have yet to find a CEU course on it! Richard, I don't understand what you say about CE Broker. The last time I tried to check my personal information I was told I had to pay to do this, even though this information (or misinformation) will be forwarded to the State.
