I haven't looked at the tongue that carefully. The coating is rough

and greasy, with some yellow, and there are sometimes red papules on

the tongue.

What did you mean when you wrote there is PI/shen disturbance? What is PI?

The dominant pattern of disharmony? I think there is Blood, Qi, and

Kidney Yin deficiency with secondary Blood Stagnation and Liver Yang

rising.

Her voice is low. The depression has to do with not being present,

disassociating, being somewhat frightened, and not motivated. She

isn't working and her husband is supporting her. They seem to have a

good relationship. She does feel somewhat guilty about past drug

abuse, also feelings of inadequacy. She's a sweetheart-I wish she had

more support.

She's on the Pill, but doesn't remember her periods being bad before.

She does say she had bad PMS, which is why she is taking Prozac. She

does have back pain, and hair loss. I would'nt say she is naturally a

Wood type, if anything, she is Wood deficient in some ways.

I'm not sure what you mean by saying it would be interesting to treat

the Zang-Fu dominant at night? And how would I do that?

Hi Gabrielle,

Sorry, I learnt TCM through Chinese PinYin and I keep falling back into it.

Pi = Spleen, Shen = Kidneys and Xin Shen well thats a Thesis in itself, I'll

try give my explanation to Xin Shen, you may know of the Mind and Spirit are

housed by the heart, e.g at night time the mind has no safe place to rest as

the heart is disturbed. (If anybody else disagrees please do.... ) Think of

it as black birds on a phone wire, and the birds scatter after a gun shot.

This to me would be Xin Shen, the wire being the heart, the birds the Mind

and the gun shot the cause. So the mind becomes very scattered, i.e. as you

said shes not present, leading to aspects of innappropriate actions by the

person, or depression. This is inturn effects the Shen Ming, again my

translations may not be accurate, but there are 4 characteristics to look

at, speech-slurring-mumbling, inappropriate actions-not sticking out like a

sore thumb, memory and sleep patterns.

I tend to agree with you on the blood and qi stagnation. How is her anger?

Does she express it easily if appropriate or does she explode. How is she

dressed, is she dominated by black or green. (yes we need to watch out for

fashion) Black being associated with Kidneys and Green with the liver and

anger. Sorry again, You know this. Or she may be dominated by white, which

would be really interesting.

You mentioned guilt!!!! Is it guilt or is she grieving, and this does not

have to be grief for a person but it could be something missing in her life.

To me that would be very important to look at. My own reasoning is this is

associated with the Lungs (Fei Jingluo) and considering this is where the Da

Qi (Big Qi/World Qi) enters the body and is the sent on its path to create

Qi for the body any major issues will continue on through to the Kidneys,

liver, spleen, blood etc. And this to me is another aspect of the voice

being so low, which would lead to Fei Yin Xu (Lung disharmony) which has

an aetiology of Shen Yin Xu (Kidney Yin Disharmony) This could also be Lung

Qi disharmony which has cms of -low voice, weak cough, little desire to

speak etc.

Again, with her periods, is she so used to suffering that it is now normal

for her, the fact that she suffers bad pms tell me there is a problem, I

would maybe look more into her periods.

- Are her periods regular, I assume pill has regulated, but i'd check

- Heavy or scanty periods

- Where and what type of pain, sharp or dull pain - Qi or blood stagnation.

And how long does pain last.

- Place you hand on her stomach, push your hand down about an inch, leave it

for a moment, how does it feel, normal or like a block of ice.

-Do the same for lower back, left and right of spine, cold or warm. Also how

are her hands and feet.

( I know I am going back to the basics, but I think we are missing something

in the diagnosis)

When I mentioned the dominant Zang Fu -> this is the organ at night time

which is active during that time, for example 7pm to 11pm, is the

Pericardium or Xix Biao. Again I was caught in Chinese Pin Yin. I'm just so

surprised of the shift in energy levels at night....... I have not worked

on 5 Element so I'm not up to speed with Wood, Earth etc. Maybe its just an

Irish thing, but I find most of my clients have an underlyning Lung

Disharmony, and it is usually what I start with for my first treatment, a)

because I find it good, b) its all hand points which people are normally

happy with on their first treatment, and it supports the creation of good

Qi.

Anyway, I've rambled a bit.

Gordon.
