Has anyone treated KD Stones in pregnant women? I would assume the herbal

formulas and

electro-acupuncture that work for non-pregnant people are contra-indicated

during

pregnancy. But that leaves me without any options.

I would be interested in hearing from people that have successfully treated KD

stones in

pregnant women.

Thanks

There are a number of diet recommendations for kidney stones which are

not contra-indicated for pregnancy, some of which depend on the type of

stone the patient has. These along with acupuncture might be enough to

make it through pregnancy and then give the stronger formulas after

childbirth. If her constitution's strong enough, you might be able to

do a stronger acupuncture treatment on her.

General recommendations are: increase fluids, decrease meat intake, no

refined sugar, low sodium intake. Eat low fat dairy for a good calcium

source, and if stones are oxalic, avoid foods high in oxalates. Take

Mg, and a B complex (esp B6) supplement.

Foods high in oxalates: (doesn't cut and paste well, but it's easy to

find similar lists on line). The general goal is to eat foods with an

oxalate content under 10 mg. This just tells you what to avoid.

Although around the holidays, it's hard to avoid chocolate and peanuts!

Nuts are usually high in oxalates. It's interesting that chinese

medicine lists walnuts as treating kidney stones to some degree, esp.

w/ kd yang xu. Has anyone had results with hu tao ren & kd stones? I've

been reluctant to include it in a formula.
