Guest guest
Ma Huang is not totally banned in the U. S. Here in New York City you can buy both the raw herb and Chinese medicinals that contain ma huang off the shelf. --roseanne
Guest guest
The FDA was never clear about the ban; it supposedly allowed " Chinese herbal remedies " to contain it. However, several American companies removed ma huang from its products, and some Chinese and Taiwanese companies found products containing ma huang were impounded by the FDA on the docks in California. The original decision and statement, which also included ban xia/pinellia (which has trace ephedrine alkaloids in its raw form, but not when prepared), was very confusing, and for all intents and purposes was never clarified.
