Guest guest
Just a note or consideration on this topic. My understanding is that to with hold menstruation a woman would have to direct Qi to her Lower Tan Tien. You may wish to refer to a book/translation by Thomas Cleary called Immortal Sisters, Secret Teachings of Taoist Women - which is a translation of life stories and teachings of female Taoists who lived from the 3rd to 12th centuries. The book deals with the spiritual methods and practices of folkloric characters such as Sun Bu-er, one of The Seven Immortals. I have not yet read the book (it's in the big pile of books by my bed!), but my teacher has. He has instructed his female students to stop the practice of directing Qi to their Lower Tan Tien based on the fact that some translations indicate that " strange illnesses " will occur. I believe the book mentions this in several places. I am happy to accept this advice because I am confident in my teachers knowledge and understanding of such things. We have been given some alterations to certain Qi Gong practices and are directing Qi to our middle and upper Tan Tiens. Although I am just a novice, I do not feel that this change has impeded the build up, conservation or our ability to feel or use Qi during our practice or treatment.
