A Menstruation question

Hi all

If you read old Taoist and tantra text, the opinion is that a woman

should not bleed during her menstruation, since this will deplete her of

precious life energy. Since Chinese medicine also holds that the

menstrual blood is a more precious form of qi than normal blood and have

its roots in taoism, would it not follow that CM also would think that

loosing blood through menstrual bleeding is not good????

However, I have never encountered anywhere an expressed opinion in CM

that bleeding during menstruation is not good.....does anyone have some

thoughts on this subject??????? :-)

Carl, isn't it not that a women doesn't bleed during menstruation but that

through Qigong

a women can withhold menses to conserve her Qi?

This is not the same as stopping one's ability to menstruate. The ability is

still there it just

isn't done.

A step beyond this I've heard a postmenopausal woman can do Qigong to bring her

bring

her fertility back so she can then also withhold menses to conserve Qi.

Ahh, those wacky Immortals!

But isn't Qi used in order to produce the blood for the menses? So where would

the gain be?

Hi Carl!

Depends on whether it is in the " normal " range or not. No bleeding at

all, or very little, something is wrong. Very heavy or continuous

bleeding, something is wrong.

If the patient has ever been healthy and happy, she would most likely

form her opinion on what is normal for her during that time.

Let me guess,

menopause would occur as a result of a Qi deficiency?

To rebuild that deficent Qi (traditionally done with Qigong) would resume

menstration.

To with hold that resumed menstration (through other Qigong techniques) would be

a

redirection of the Qi.

Isn't this a subject better approached on the Qigong list?

Perhaps this isn't a part of commonly practiced Chinese med. because its

something a

woman has to do for herself and not have done to her.

Just a speculation.
