I am registered on http://sw16.im.med.umich.edu/CHMIS-C/signin/ as a veterinary researcher with Teagasc [National Agriculture & Food Authority of Ireland] under category (a), The enrolment page at http://sw16.im.med.umich.edu/CHMIS-C/enroll/ has two categories: (a) Academic / Governmental and (b) Industrial. Registration is free for category (a) but very costly for category (b) because this database has awesome power for those with commercial interest in developing biomedical compounds. CHMIS has access to molecular data and linkages to the relevant publications on Medline. Listers interested to join for free should have an Academic / Governmental connection, and use a bona-fide email address in Academic / Governmental domain. If you have not such an address, you may be able to the get one as an associate staff member via an IT person, or senior Academic / Governmental staff member. However, CHMIS falls far short of being a database that CLINICIANS need: (a) It focuses only on herbs and SPECIAL (non-classical) formulas used in CANCER, for example, in descending order of usage in cancer formulas, the top 50 individual herbs listed in CHMIS are: _Hb PinYin Name _Used in Cancer Type Baihuasheshecao Digestive tract, LV, Lymphoma, Cervix, Larynx, SI, LI, Anus, Chorioepithelioma Xiakucao Uterus, Thyroid, Mammary, Lymphoma Banzhilian Cervix, LV Danggui Sarcoma Jinyinhua Nose & Throat, Uterus, Cervix, Vagina Haizao Sarcoma, Abdomen Fuling Nourish Danshen Abdomen, Melanoma, LV Dangshen LU Gancao ST, Tongue, Larynx, LV Kunbu Thyroid, Oesophagus, Uterus, Lymphoma, LU, LV, Mammary Shengdi ? (b) The CHMIS details on any listed herb or formula omit many basic facts of interest to clinicians. I am trying to persuade Dr Xueliang Fang, the designer of CHMIS to team up with TRADIMED [ http://www.tradimed.com/ ] in Korea. TRADIMED is a vast database - a mixture of classical + modern (pharmacological & molecular) data from: 11 Korean Medical Classics [see http://www.tradimed.com/tradimedGuide/eAboutBookKorea.asp ] 6 Chinese Medical Classics [see http://www.tradimed.com/tradimedGuide/eAboutBookChina.asp ], Formulae, Disease classification,Constituents References from 114 sources, + a Constituents References Data Base from MAPA (Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Abstracts) CAB Abstracts, AGRIS, CARIS, AGRICOLA, PASCAL, FRANCIS, BIOSIS PREVIEWS, CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS, CA REGISTRY + 32 more sources [see http://www.tradimed.com/tradimedGuide/eAboutReferenceBook.asp ] Unfortunately, TRADIMED requires an annual subscription, or " pay-per- view " . If CHMIS and TRADIMED agree to interface, clinicians who can obtain a bona-fide Academic / Governmental email address will have access (via CHMIS) to the most comprehensive dynamic suite of herbal databases on the planet. It remains to be seen if this transpires. Best regards, Tel: (H): +353-(0) or (M): +353-(0) Ireland. That is not correct; they list 937 herbs and 527 formulas. I have downloaded the data on the 937 herbs (it has only the names and the cancer types for each) and will download the formulas tomorrow. I will edit these files into Excel worksheets in the next week. CHMIS has the copyright on these data, which I may not post in public. If you are interested, email me offlist. Unfortunately, there are no specific tips as to which herbs / formulas to use in any given cancer, because the TCM Syndromes are not listed, nor are any other clinical pointers, except the cancer type.
