Hi all,

Recently saw a quite interesting case of a 65 year old male who contracted small

pox in January 2005 that caused pox blisters on his left arm. He spent two weeks

in a hospital isolation ward and when discharged developed severe neuralgia in

the pox-marked arm. Has anyone ever heard of neuralgia following small pox? I am

just wondering where this fits on the common/rare scale. Thanks - Matt Bauer

That is what the patient was told and he was in a hospital isolation ward for

two weeks so I can't see that he has it wrong. - Matt

I thought there has not been a case of small pox in many years now. I would

think this would make big news if it was. Did he get revaccinated?

My understanding too, Alon. I am trying to get more information from his doctors

as it does not quite add up to me either. There have been some cases of small

pox caused by the vaccine, but I don't have enough information yet be sure just

what is going on in this case. I at first thought he was talking about shingles,

but he denies this and would not have been put in isolation. I hope to get the

right information in the next few days and just wondered if anyone had heard

anything like this before. Thanks all - Matt
