Guest guest
Massage the abdomen. Some gentle release techniques working on the base of the skull (release of the Vegas nerve). On someone older I would suggest moxa on St 25, and some of the CV points along the abdomen. But somehow I am not sure if moxa and 4 month old would go well together. Guest guest
I have had good results with massage of the abdomen reflex point on the foot... approximately in the location of KD1... massage with counterclockwise motion on right foot, to settle the stomach. Guest guest
Dear Kikoim First confirm it is colic .Colic begins from 2-3 weeks of age .It worses at evening or noight .Relation to mother gaseous foods or milk protein allergy are possible causes. Diferrential diagnosis are ; low breast milk ,in night child`s hunger accentuates specially if overheating . other diagnosis is atopic dermatitis with pruritus specially face, it aggravates at sleep. Sometimes sleep cycle is reversed & infant wants to be with parents & will be angry if they don`t know. How ever it may be real colic but colic usually subsides by 3-4 months of age & this is atypical. In TCM colic is a shi syndrome of stomach , We use caraway oil & dill oil , also surose has a pain relief act in infants. You can massage Ren 11 & 12 ,ST 25,23, GB 20 , after bathing.I prefer try them after a pediatrician examination of him/her. Guest guest
Another suggestion might be to rub peppermint essential oil on the feet or abdomen or even put in the vacinity of their nose for awhile. Choose a high quality oil that does not contain adulterants (my choice is Youngliving). A patient might give their child a small amount of peppermint tea, by dropper if necessary also. Hope this helps. Mike W. Guest guest
There is a specific infant massage technique for colic. There is a certification course available. There are videos available as well for the mothers to view and follow . Start with massaging the feet, then legs, then arms, then turn baby over and massage neck and back and gently along the sides of the spine. Then, turn the baby back over and massage the scalp, face, chest. Then, on the abdomen, start the massage stroke from the ileocecal area on the right lower quadrant, upward to the right upper quadrant, then accross the upper abdomen to the babies left side and down the left from the left upper quadrant to the lower. Do the strokes slowly and softly, repeating the upside down U on the babies abdomen about 7 to 9 times. Also say the words " I love You " during the strokes. Do this 2 to 3 times a day. If it's a breastfeeding mother, she should monitor her nutritional intake and eliminate gaseous foods and spices, until the babies digestion matures. Also, there are homeopathic remedies to use as well. BHI Chammomilla is very calming, and I believe there is an OTC remedy by Hylands for Colic that is sold in the regular drug stroes. Hope it all works out Marleen Colangelo
