Herbal hope for hay fever

In a story only reported in the Times and the Daily Mail, it has emerged

that the herb butterbur is as effective as an antihistamine in controlling

hay fever, a trial in Germany and Switzerland has shown. In a trial

involving 330 patients at 11 centres, around 30% of patients on either the

antihistamine Fexofenadine, or the herb butterbur made a complete recovery.

Clear improvement was shown by 39% of those on the antihistamine and by 26%

of those on butterbur, according to Phytotherapy Research.
