Guest guest
Hi All, & Christopher In the last 2 days I had long discussions with Prof Duck-Hwan KIM. He has come to Ireland from Daejon (South Korea) for a 1-month stay to research bee-venom-injection acupuncture in dogs. Prof KIM [ http://tinyurl.com/aq3ar ] is a Prof of Large Animal Medicine, and ex-Dean of the Chungnam Vet School. He also has studied and continues to study) traditional Korean (Chinese) herbal medicine and HUMAN acupuncture in several styles - body-AP, KHA, Oculo-AP, Auriculo-AP, Scalp-AP, Tung-style-AP, etc. I learned much from him and will post some of his eye-openers in the next few days. IVAS [intnl Vet Acup Soc http://www.ivas.org/course_info.cfm ] runs a very good [intensive] BASIC course for vets. There are only 120- teaching hours [spread over circa 4 X 5-day modules]. However, in addition to the 120-hours of expert teaching, participants get very detailed Course Notes that cover the main TCM Principles. They must also study IVAS-recommended human textbooks and put in a LOT of directed home-study. To qualify for the IVAS Certificate, participants must sit a 3-4 hour exam and answer 150 MCQs. The PASS mark is 90% and I know of one candidate who scored 100%. IMO, the IVAS Course is excellent. Any vet who holds a valid IVAS Cert has earned his/her stripes! But they are only on the FIRST-STEP of a lifelong study of TCM-acupuncture. IVAS also runs ADVANCED acupuncture courses and courses in TCM Herbal Medicine. Its Annual Congress usually is well attended and congress speakers come from all over the world. See a few abstracts from a recent Brazilian Veterinary Acupuncture Congress at http://users.med.auth.gr/~karanik/english/articles/brazvet.html Heck, Christopher, although I have 32 years of study and practice of AP in animals and humans under my belt, when I talk with practitioners like Prof KIM, Are Thoresen, Emiel van den Bosch, Marvin Cain, etc., and read the mails on this list (and on several other TCM Lists), I feel that I have barely started my education! I hope that the belief in reincarnation is correct, and that my soul in this life will carry the experiences of past lives into the future. If that is true, maybe I might be just about ready to progress to Junior Master Status in my next reincarnation, or the one after that! Best regards, Tel: (H): +353-(0) or (M): +353-(0) Ireland.
