Guest guest
I am starting to make my own shampoo and conditioner etc. The easiest way is to find a base and add your own teas and EOs. Now to find an all natural base I would search the internet. My shampoo base I got at a local herb store http://www.cherylsherbs.com/ The conditioner base that I am going to use I am not as thrilled with because it does have one artificial ingrediant, but I have not been able to find one with less. http://www.camdengrey.com/ I also got silk protein to put in my shampoo because it makes my hair so smooth and tangle free. http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/ As you get more confident you can branch out. I know you can make regular soap from veggie oils, but I am going to start simply with something that I know that I can do. I am also going to start my own dishwashing soap and laundry detergent with recipies my friend gave me. Dishwasher detergent 1 box organic dishwashing detergent (expensive but findable at whole foods or trader joes. Not necessary if you have very soft water.) 4 lbs baking soda 4 lbs borax (walmart etc) Laundry soap This is the recipie I got, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet 4lbs baking soda 4 lbs borax 4 shaved bars of ivory soap (I might try making my own and replacing it) hope this gives you a place to start. If you find more info, I am very interested as I am just starting this journey myself. Guest guest
I haven't investigated the site yet, not sure what they use. I found it by accident a few days ago. I was curious about how they made soap in the olden days so I book marked it. http://www.creativity-portal.com/howto/artscrafts/candle.html I know that good ole coconut oil makes soap lather, so that can be used in place of LSulphate... fft I would like to start making my own soap and get away from all the chemicals.. Any suggestions on where to start? Jeanne

Guest guest
Hi Candy! I would like to start making my own soap and get away from all the chemicals.. Any suggestions on where to start? Jeanne Jeanne and Ramona, Well, you cannot make true soap without the use of Lye (sodium hydroxide). This is a chemical. However....if you make the soap with a bit of extra oil, all of the lye is converted with the oils to make a sodium salt of soap. Very cool business. I can assist you in making coconut oil soap. However, if you use entirely coconut oil, it can dry your skin, as coconut oil's properties are changed when you turn the oil into soap. So, it's all about finding a unique balance of oils and a superfat percentage that works for your skin. I have a couple of recipes that I formulated that work wonders for my skin. However, it might make your skin oily or dry....just depends on the person. I can recommend www.millersoap.com if you want to take a look at the soapmaking process. Kathy Miller has done a wonderful job with this website. I doubt there is a question you could pose about soapmaking that she *doesn't* have answered on this website. Hope this gives you a place to start. Candy
