Guest guest
Mr Raine, I made tinctures always with 90 proof vodka or gin if the tincture is to be used internally. I also often used an eighty or eighty six proff brandy or whisky for tinctures, and I found them quite acceptable. An alcohol solution dissolves all the chemical principles of a plant and acts to preserve it for further use. Since tinctures are very contrated extracts of herbs preserved in alcohol, very little is needed. Use from 5 to an average of 15 drops at a time. A drop of tincture is equal to a teaspoon of the herb juice. The basic tincture technicque, I found, or easiest home preparation is made by steeping herbs in either vodka, gin, whisky, or brandy. This way I always know that my tinctures can be used internally when necessary. 1 pint 90 proof vodka or gin. 1-4 ounces cut form of herb, depending on the strenght of the herb. [4 ounces are best]. steep the cut herb for two weeks, strain out the herb or herbs. Lable the bottle. I found coffee filters are best to use. Use glass jars for storage. With respect always, Polaco-polish
