Guest guest
Since I don't celebrate any of the standard holidays, I thought this weekend might be a good opportunity for a 3-day juice fast. For quite some time, I've suspected that I have some sort of liver/kidney malfunction. I won't go into all the details, but I'm pretty sure about this. My intestines are pretty clean, so I was aiming for more of a liver flush (with some intestinal cleaning at the same time). Since I don't have a gallbladder, I did not do the olive oil type flush. So here's what I did. I stopped eating food early Friday afternoon. Around 5 PM, I had some senna tea. During the evening, I made three glasses of fresh squeezed organic juice, primarily grapefruit, some lemon, and a little orange just to keep it from being too tart. I also drank good water. The senna tea did its thing before I went to bed. I slept well, and when I woke up, I drank some prune juice. I had more citrus juice during the morning, but after 12 noon, I was not where I could juice. During that time, I drank water and sipped on some herbal mint tea (because it was available and I wanted something hot). Starting around noon, my head started hurting. By 4 PM, I was incredibly nauseous, I was dizzy and my head was pounding. I knew that my body was flushing toxins, which is a good thing, but the symptoms were so bad that I decided to stop the fast (for now) with an organic salad. Later in the evening, I was really surprised by some very powerful cravings (eggs and whole wheat toast of all things). Here's what I think happened. I think I probably have a pretty toxic liver, and that the juices did what they are supposed to do - flush toxins. But I think that there's just too much for me to do it all at once. I'm thinking that I'll wait a week or two, then do the same thing again - for one day only. I'll repeat that until I'm able to tolerate it fairly well, then I'll go for two days. My goal is to more gradually detox the liver than an all-at-once dump. Does this sound logical? Anybody have any idea what those cravings were about. It was strange because at the same time, I had an almost instinctual aversion to anything other than the salad, eggs, and toast. I hope everyone is enjoying whatever holiday they celebrate.
