Guest guest
Hi, We are taking care of a friends 2 dogs for 3 weeks while they are out of the country. One is an adult golden retriever and the other is her 9 week old puppy. When they first got here we could feel but not see a spot on the adult dog that felt like a scratch on her skin (neck). She has been with us a week and now the spot has lost the hair and its a very red spot that always feels wet. There is not a scratch that we can see - just a round red spot about 1 inch by one inch. She scratches at it hard. We don't know how to stop her from scratching there when we aren't looking. We have been putting hydrogen peroxide on it several times a day but it's not helped at all. I read about trying an asprin disolved in black tea. I don't have any black tea right now but before I go shopping for some I wanted to ask here incase there are some herbs or something I can get at the same time. An ointment? Something that won't hurt the puppy if it gets on her because they are inseparable. She has a spot like it right on the top of her head but since she does not scratch it, it is healing up nicely. Thanks, Brenda
Guest guest
I have a 10 year old golden. He chews the top of his feet if we leave him too long. I am told they are hot spots. He has made them bleed. I am also told he is acting out his anger because we are away. When I leave him with family he does not do this. Just when home alone for a few hours or with friends that don't have pets. Weird - I know. I found a topical (over the counter) at Wal-Mart. Forgot the name of it. It says for hot spots on the label. I clean the sight then just rub it on and HE HATES the taste of it - Or so it seems. When treated the hot spot will heal in only a few days. My friends find that - when they keep Largo now - They play ball with him - he gets EXTRA (small) treats (AKA cookies) throughout the day. This seems to settle him down and he no longer chews. I dare NOT take him to a kennel.!!!!!!!!!! So maybe a bit MORE of interaction (more than enough is NEVER enough- LOL). He simply goes just about everywhere with us now. Matter of fact - if he/she likes to go "BYE BYE" we just put Largo in the car for a while - and he is as happy as going somewhere. Maybe your visitor would enjoy going to sit in the car a while. It may help his/her spirits. - shooting7str8 herbal remedies Monday, December 19, 2005 10:07 PM Herbal Remedies - spot on dog Hi, We are taking care of a friends 2 dogs for 3 weeks while they are out of the country.
