Guest guest
I am new to this group, but a firm believer of exhausting natural remedies before moving to modern drugs. However, one of my children, age 7 was diagnosed bipolar and obsessive compulsive a few years ago. She was sooo unmanageable both at home and at school that medication became the only option, she is currently on two medicines-abilify and seroquel and I am totally 100% against them, but until I find a natural remedy to the behavior, I don't have much of an alternative! I am desperate to get her off them so that her life isn't complicated by the adverse affects of taking these stinking drugs the rest of her life. I also know that getting her off drugs will not be an easy task, but I believe a crucial one. Anyone out there in a similar position or successfully dealt with herbal treatment for psychological issues? Suggestions, tips, supplement ideas to help ween her off the drugs, anything would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Guest guest
My first suggestion would be to change her diet (changing the whole family would be better because then she doesn't think it's because of her) completely to whole, unprocessed, organic foods. By doing this, you eliminate so many additives that we don't even know about. While I do not say that it is the cause of every disorder, there are people who have found a significant improvement of symptions when they changed their diet in this way. This is not an herbal " treatment " of the disorder, but rather a method to find a cause. If you change her diet completely for six months, and see no change in her symptoms, then you can look elsewhere. It's worth trying. Guest guest
Thanks Terri for your recommendations. I guess I should have noted that I already practice eating a very healthy diet for the most part. I look at every single label of everything I buy. I buy a majority of my foods at a local health food store, organic whenever possible, I make my own bath and body products and cleaning products as well. I even use organic infant formula for my two youngest when they were weaned from breast feeding. My kids never get sick like other children do in their school so it makes me proud to know I am doing something right. My two year old has never so much as had a cold. There is room for improvement, I have went back to more processed foods lately, unfortunately because of the convenience, which I know I need to cut out. I am also trying to get wheat out of her diet in case she has a food allergy I don't know of (suggestion of local health food store). I would like to try to make some tinctures for several purposes, including my daughters condition. I am very thankful for your thoughts, I definitely do need to make some improvements in some areas. take care Kelli herbal remedies , maddress@m... wrote: > > My first suggestion would be to change her diet (changing the whole family would be better because then she doesn't think it's because of her) completely to whole, unprocessed, organic foods. Guest guest
Thank you very much, I have thought about the Cleansing, just not sure the best way for a child. I used to do a lot better at the whole foods diet, but have kind of slid off the wagon lately. I do however, buy a lot of my foods at a natural health food store and organic whenever possible. Guest guest
Usually, with bipolar and OCD, the brain chemicals are out of whack. Usually, the culprit is a deficit of dopamine, or serotonin, or both. Drugs usually only make things worse. Most of the " brain " drugs out there either ARE narcotics, or at least have molecular structures that VERY closely resemble them, and thus may have the same effects and addictive/toxic properties. You may also want to know that most prescription drugs out there are made of coal tar and petroleum products/by-products and are extremely toxic to the body. " Modern Medicine " is actually extremely barbaric and ineffective, but then again you probably knew that But there ARE REAL remedies! In addition to going organic and whole-grain and everything, I would also make sure to clear out her energy meridians via acupuncture. I've experienced acupuncture myself, and I can assure you than though it usually involves needles, they DO NOT hurt. I have a hand-held electronic device that can clear out my blocked/unbalanced meridians without needles. Hope this helps! If you have any questions, plz feel free to contact me. Guest guest
I have tried intestinal cleansing with my 11 y.o. daughter and it really works. Her issues are her skin (acne) and I know her thyroid is a little low. I make the intestinal cleanse formula and put it in capsules. I also give her triphala to keep things moving and it is also really good for the liver. She started taking the cleanse two days ago and her skin is already starting to calm down. When I do the cleanse it immediately calms down my eczema when I take it. You can take small steps and build up to a big change. I have seen a huge difference in the health of my family since going organic and low sugar. It is a battle with my kids because of all the candy and baked goods they get at school but I still can make a difference at home. I have them trained pretty well in refusing soda. Last night my daughter tried to take a capsule and tried so long is dissolved and she spit it out. I was trying to get her to start a colon cleanse. Guest guest
Well that would make it tough. I have taken for granted my son at age 7 could take capsule. (I now I could never take them until I was a teenager) But there are kid formulas in tincture form that she can drink or you can mix it in something. Dr Christopher has a Kid-d-lax formula that my son likes and works real well for him. GinaKim <irishgirl75 wrote: Please let me know the kid friendly way. Guest guest
Kim, Something that can help her to swallow the capsule is: after she puts the capsule in her mouth have her take a mouth full of water. Holding both the capsule and water in her mouth have her lean forward -- the capsule will float to the back -- and swallow. This method has helped other kids swallow capsules, maybe it will help her too. Rebecca Please let me know the kid friendly way. Guest guest
Kim, My daughter learned to do this at age 7 and we just taught my 8 y.o. son to do it. Have them put the capsule all the way on the very back of the tongue and then take a big glass of water or juice to wash it down. With my son it came very easily but I do remember that with my daughter it took a lot of tries for her to get it. Keep trying and she will get it. Jackie >>Please let me know the kid friendly way. Guest guest
While I definitely do not recommend lots of sugary things for kids, an effective way to teach them to swallow pills or capsules is to use tic tacs. The biggest fear kids have is that if they don't get it down, it's going to taste horrible. With a tic tac, it doesn't matter. Take the fear away, and the learning process is much easier. Guest guest
Great idea, I'll have to try this tonight with my daughter. She takes garlic capsules and since she can't swallow them she opens them and dumps the garlic powder down her throat. herbal remedies , Wndflr@a... wrote: > > Kim, > > Something that can help her to swallow the capsule is: after she puts the > capsule in her mouth have her take a mouth full of water.
