Guest guest
It is very difficult to find a doctor who will prescribe Armour. I had to search for one who would prescribe it and understood it (that's another difficult thing to find). I started out on a site that had a " Top Doc " list and went to one recommended as understanding hypothyroid symptoms and prescribing Armour. What so many don't understand is that Armour thyroid has the T3/T4 ratio that a pig's thyroid has - 20%/T3 and 80%/T4. The " normal " human thyroid actually makes approximately 7%/T3 and 93%/T4 (www.thyroidmanager.org). What happens to some who take Armour is that their T3 levels will be at a good level but their T4 levels would be too low. What my doctor did was add in some Levoxyl when it showed that my T4 levels were low. This has worked for me for almost 5 years now. I have a different doctor now who will prescribe it for me but doesn't really understand it so is not willing to adjust the meds. I am going to try someone new who, when I emailed her, said she is familiar with prescribing both Armour and Levoxyl and willing to do it. If you would like the address of the Top Doc list, you can email me privately. Jackie " I am currently fighting with my doctors to get them to put me on Armor which is pig thyroid. Right now I am on 250 mcg of synthroid. Well, to be honest, I have cut that back a bit and am using raw bovine thyroid (RBT) along with my synthroid. Problem is I can not afford the cost of the amount of RBT I would need to take to replace the full amount of synthroid. The armor is a prescription and covered by our health insurance. My endro doctor will not even consider the Armor. "
Guest guest
Jackie, Thank you for the info!!!! I found an doctor who will prescribe the Armor for me now it is a matte of figuring out the dosage. Our plan is to have me on both synthroid and the Armor and adjust till we get all the right levels. I will be writing you off list. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi kimi, I hope armour works on you I went through alot while on it i tried the synthroid/armour combo and unfortunately it didnt help, armour was not the miracle drug for me, it does help soem people but for me it gave me horrible chest pains, and after taking it my TSH went very high, anyway I dont mean to discourage you, definately give it a try just make sure you dont get chest pains while taking them, soem people that took armour told me to go up to 5 grains because i was not taking enough, thanks god I didnt listen because i was only at 2 grains and the chest pains were unbearable., I also have hashimotos, and had RAI done 2 years ago, i saw a top doc his name is dr lupo, seen 2 so far, he doesnt prescribe armour he said something like that with armour you get inconsistent dosing but with synthroid you always get the same strength in every bottle. Guest guest
Vanessa, I saw my endro today and we decided to not go with the Armor. I have been having enlarged lymph nodes and she does not want to play around with the armor and give my cancer a chance to become stimulated from a high TSH. So I am doing the synthroid:-(. I do think I will take at least one pill a day of the raw thyroid I've been doing. I feel so much better on it.
