Guest guest
Doc Shillington, I am wondering on how much iodine a person needs? I do not have a thyroid and am wondering if I still need iodine? I plan on doing the test you recommended as soon as I can find some of the iodine to do it with. I just don't know how much someone with out a thyroid would need. Kimi~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I do not ask that Thou should give me some high or noble task. Give me shining eyes Thy face to see. The only crown I ask to wear isthis, that I may teach my children. I do not ask that I may stand among thewise, the worthy, or the great; I only ask that softly, hand in hand mychildren and I may enter at the gate."-Anonymous
Guest guest
Dear Kimi, Tough question since we are all so different. And having your Thyroid out complicates it even further since the Thyroid is responsible for our metabolizing. As long as your Iodine source is natural I wouldn't worry about taking too much. Will it help even without a thyroid??? You betcha. In Health and Love, Doc PS. Wish I'd gotten to you before the butchers did. Guest guest
Doc said: PS. Wish I'd gotten to you before the butchers did. (sigh ;-) I wish you had too! I have papillary thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed three years ago. (It was huge, the right lobe went from inside my jaw line down to bronchial and was starting to twist around them. Left lobe was the size of a softball and had the 3 cm tumor) I am now fighting with enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, thought they are still considered small. This is one of the biggest reasons I have come here to HR. I really want to avoid more surgery as this would be even more dangerous than the first surgery (that was an 8 and 1/2 hour surgery). I am currently fighting with my doctors to get them to put me on Armor which is pig thyroid. Right now I am on 250 mcg of synthroid. Well, to be honest, I have cut that back a bit and am using raw bovine thyroid (RBT) along with my synthroid. Problem is I can not afford the cost of the amount of RBT I would need to take to replace the full amount of synthroid. The armor is a prescription and covered by our health insurance. My endro doctor will not even consider the Armor. Since my radiation (106 MCU?) I have also become anemic and can not maintain any iron stores in my body higher than 12, (Range is 20 to 50) and that is with a maxim dose of oral iron (which is killing my gut!). So anything that would be of help here would be much appreciated! Thanks, Kimi~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I do not ask that Thou should give me some high or noble task.
