Guest guest
Hi Doc, My husband has high cholesterol and triglycerides. He's on Lipitor and something called Zita. After a follow-up visit w/ his dr. yesterday, now he's got yet another drug to change the cholesterol from 'B' pattern to 'A' pattern.?! Can you tell me what that means? I asked him last night if this is how he want's to live, be a pill popper, with all those side effects. He needs to lose about 50lb and get off the beer (elevates his triglycerides, 402 before the lipitor), but he just won't make any effort. I know it's up to him to really want to make the change, but inside, it really makes me sick. Anyway, if he'll take the garlic, can I start him out with the 8 cloves, divided through the day, or should I ease him up, increasing every other day? He already really stinks (I always think he smells like cat pee when he sweats), so I guess with 8 cloves, he's really going to smell. Debra - Dr. Ian Shillington herbal remedies Wednesday, December 07, 2005 12:35 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Need help with cholesterol Dear Sharron, Not to sound like a broken record, but you want to be on large quantities of GARLIC!!! At least 8 cloves a day!!! You also need to change your diet so you're not getting so much of the LDL. Also, if you are eating commercial meats, you're getting nanobacteria which are the critters that build up arterial plaque. The Garlic is the place to start, but I'd look at your diet and other areas of your life as well for a complete handling. Guest guest
Dear Deb, You do have your work cut out for you. ;-) I suggest you start him off with only one clove of Garlic. 8 Cloves might send him into a full blown detox which would turn him off big time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and converting a hard core hedonist over to a healthy lifestyle can take months and even years. LOL Do the best you can, but never quit. He's probably worth it. :-) In Health and Love, Doc Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - Debra Savage herbal remedies Wednesday, December 07, 2005 4:28 PM Herbal Remedies - Re: cholesterol- Doc Hi Doc, My husband has high cholesterol and triglycerides. I think it is due to two things, one, he has seen how eating healthy has changed me and how much better I am starting to get, two, He got sick of me telling him to make sure his life insurance was paid up so I would be taken care of when he died. There is hope. I would suggest reading a couple of books that gives a whole different view point to the cholesterol theory. I don't know if I am allowed to say the names of the books here on list so please feel free to write me off list for the book names. I know how eating more like the books suggest our bad cholesterol levels have dropped and our good has risen. The triglycerides levels for me are still high (I am diabetic) and my hubby's are dropping. FYI, my hubby's cardiologist told him that Lipitor does not help much if at all for the triglycerides levels. He is the only dr who has ever told us that so I don't know if it is true or not. Guest guest
Its true, Lipitor does not help triglyceride levels decrease. I think the only ones that do that are the ones you eat with meals, gemfibrozol is one of them. A lot of cardiologists are starting to actually "reccommend" taking fish oil to decrease triglycerides...amazing, huh? Dawn, Herbalist, Aromatherapist, Cardiac nurse. Guest guest
Hey All! At my last annual physical my MD wanted to put me on the statins to control high cholesterol(580) and triglycerides(260). I refused and cut chocolate and sweets out and the cholesterol went down (130) but the triglycerides stayed high (200). I started taking cod liver oil, just one pearl a day, and my triglycerides went down (80). I also tried niacin but my skin turned beet red, so no more. Reading all there is on the herbal remedies website and other sites assured me that I do not want to take the pharmaceuticals. But I do not know all I need to completely change over to natureceuticals. I try to eat clean food (organic) but it is near impossible because it is 100 miles to a big city and our local small stores do not carry these items. I live right in the middle of Colorado in the High Rockies. There are many organic meat places in Colorado but the cost is prohibitive for a retired person. The local Buffalo Ranch moved to Kansas so no more organic buffalo available. I have lived along the edges of natural health all my life but never been in the position to fully embrace it. [in 1949 my Dad was told he would be dead in 6 months from a heart condition. My Dad, a never quit guy, started juicing and eating healthful. He sold Acme Juicers for a living. Ten years later in 1959 he died from surgical complications, otherwise excellent health. His spleen was the size of a football, with no reason known, and when they operated it burst and flooded his body cavity with the bile causing septic shock . He died 18 hours after surgery with a temp of 108°.] LoveBob Adageyudi Staya Udanvti - dawn gates herbal remedies Sunday, December 11, 2005 8:56 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: cholesterol- Doc Its true, Lipitor does not help triglyceride levels decrease. Guest guest
Bob, My husband has taken niacin off and on for years and he always turn red when he first starts, but as he continues to use it becomes less and less. I was told by a alternative doctor that you only turn red in the areas that have been exposed to the sun. So in the swimsuit area your don't turn red. That has been the case with my husband. My son also takes niacin and he does the same thing as his father. Of course both my husband and son are fair skinned so it looks much worse than it is. Turning red is just part of the flushing processes. Christine :-)

Guest guest
Niacin is not a drug. It is a vitamin = B3 Vitamins are not drugs. The RDA for Niacin is way out of line (1 Mg) which is not unusual for Government, FDA etc recommendations. 1 Mg is not enough to create any effect or benefit whatsoever. You want the flushing effects of Niacin. This effect is the running out of radiation. Best is to start with 100 Mg and go no higher than 500 Mg unless you are being monitored by a health care pro and have a twin (buddy) to do a Niacin program with. On a program, the maximum taken should be 5,000 Mg. The whole idea is to start off small and use a gradient approach. Start with 100 Mg. When you stop flushing at that level, raise it up to 200 Mg and so on up to a maximum of 500 Mg unsupervised. If a person has done drugs previously (pharmaceutical or street), they can turn on a full blown trip even though it's been years since they took that drug. I've seen patients turn on a full blown LSD trip while taking Niacin. Niacin runs out radiation and drugs. Nothing to be afraid of, just start off small and work up.
