Guest guest
Hi all, I'm Raine, new to the group. I hate to start off with this question, but I've come down with a cold complete with the most horrendous sinus congestion. It feels as though my cheek bones are going to pop out of my face! I'm taking olive leaf and lobellia orally, inhaling/rubbing on oregano and eucalyptus oils, taking in lots of garlic and juice. I made a honey/lemon syrup for coughs- though they're not productive at all. How do I get this snot to leave my head?!?! Help me get out of cold limbo! Thanks, Raine
Guest guest
I had ONE sinus infection my entire life (lucky me!!!) But it was so bad I couldn't think straight.. started using Red Thyme Essential oil as aromatherapy (a few drops on a cotton ball, wrapped in a kleenex to help hold onto it) and within and hour, it was gone and.. STAYED GONE. Now I use it the first sign of a cold of any kind and haven't had even a cold (full blown) in over 3 years. My dh uses it since he is so prone to colds, etc and it really helps him too. The .33 oz bottle I bought at a local health food store for about $20 has lasted 3 years... and I just ran out (due to dh's use of it). Time to get more!! I want to stress to use RED THYME.. and get an all organic if possible. Guest guest
Add a hot bath an hour before bedtime, as hot as you can handle for at least half an hour, drinking 6 cups of freshly made ginger tea while in the bath. And check out the Total Tonic and Echinacea in the files. love Lisa - Raine herbal remedies Tuesday, November 29, 2005 8:46 AM Herbal Remedies - Raine's Intro Hi all, I'm Raine, new to the group. Guest guest
Hi Raine! I cannot believe that the Doc's do not tell everyone about this CURE. I do not use any type of cold products any more because at the first twinges I take two '0' caps of ground osha root - morning and night, normally only for two days for total relief. To eliminate the mucous situation and clear up the infection use a nasal wash. Can be bought at most drugstores or make your own (very cheaply). I use one quart distilled water to 1/4 teaspoon sea salt. Boil to help dissolve the salt and kill any bacteria in the solution, let cool to about 80°F, and use a large baby syringe. Tilt head forward slightly so it wont run down your chest, (some believe that you have to tilt head back and then forward to messily drain) then gently squirt into one nostril until it comes out the other one. Some may come out of your mouth also. Repeat as needed until it comes out clear without the infected (green/yellow) phlegm. Repeat several times a day or every time the mucous starts to block your breathing. DO NOT use table salt. Use only sea salt or pure canning salt. To start off the solution will burn temporarily. My usual 10 to 20 day sinusitis infections are now in the 2 to 3 days category. Thinking it would be quicker I tried adding Echinacea and Goldenseal and really messed up my nose. Allergy to goldenseal. Patience is needed here as the salt solution is all you need. My sinus infections always led into bronchitis requiring antibiotics. Have not had bronchitis in several years. Guest guest
I posted my experiences with purple cabbage juice and colds, wondering if anyone had any experience with it, but no one has responded. To review, my friend suggested it for colds, etc. I've tried it three times and it's worked all three times. I don't know if it works for everyone, but I'm convinced. Drink fresh-juiced purple cabbage, 8-12 ounces, three doses at 12-hour intervals. I've never had to drink more than three doses before the cold was just gone. One precaution, if the cold is well established, it make take more than three doses. I usually do it as soon as I have symptoms. PLEASE let me know if it works for you. Guest guest
The other thing I've done for colds and sinus infections is to drink 8- 12 ounces of water every 30 minutes. It thins out the mucous and lets it drain. Guest guest
I want to thank everyone who responded with ideas for me. I will be using them in the future for sure! For instance; Terri, I'd never even heard of Red Thyme oil before! Lisa, I had Ginger tea in my notes for colds, but hadn't thought of it. Bob, I also hadn't heard of Osha root. A saline nasal rinse almost seems too simple! lol Terri (mamaterri), I've read about purple cabbage juice once before, so your post was a confirmation that it's something to look into. Thanks to all! I know I will love this group! -Raine, currently treating two questionable skin problems that (curiously) popped up during this cold with an excellent black salve
