Guest guest
I have been feeling really horrible of late and I'm almost positive that it's because I have started consuming sugar after being on a high proteinl/low carb regiment for many years... I am unable to use sugar subs, so would appreciate any ideas on how I might be able to eat some even semi-sweet stuff without over doing the carbs. I have been feeling just plain lethargic & depressed a lot... also...it's been so long that I cannot really recall what the withdrawls from sugar were...I'm feeling tired, lethargic, moody, mild head ache...just kind of yucky all over... Would appreciate any input... Blessings, Robin
Guest guest
Hi Robin Well, what kinds of sugars are you consuming? Not all are created equal. If you've been off carbs this whole time (not a good thing, but fixable), for that long, you may want to sort of wean yourself back onto them. Start with just a bit. And I would definitely make sure they are whole grain-type carbs. As in, 100% whole wheat (preferably sprouted grains, if you can find them), brown rice (for a TASTY and more evenly-cooking alternative, try brown basmati rice!), whole grain oats, etc. IF you choose to use sweetner (which I would use quite sparingly, especially at first, as it will hit your system faster), use raw, unpasteurized honey, RAW sugar (not brown sugar, which is usually nothing but white sugar dipped in molasses...yeah, just what we need ), sucanat and turbinado sugar make great alternatives with their varied flavors, etc. But again, moderation is key, and you might want to take it slow at first. Some tidbits to keep in mind: 1) Carbohydrates are the body's PREFERRED form of nourishment! 2) These Atkins/Zone type diets are horrible for the pH of the body, turning it acid, which makes a great breeding ground for problems (yeasts, bacteria, etc). It also creates a TON of mucus, due to this acidity, as your body tries to flush out the junk that is allowed to accumulate in this new environment. 3) These fad diets also throw your body into an abnormal metabolic state called ketosis. It's complicated to me, but suffice it to say that after the initial weight loss those dieters experience, the pounds eventually come right back on, sometimes bringing more with them. You may or may not ever be able to eat very much sweet stuff. Complex carbs yes, but maybe not sweet stuff. If you're interested, reserach Ayurveda or Ayurvedic diets. This is the OLDEST system of natural healing, and it is the mother of ALL others. There are different body-mind-types called constitutions, or DOSHAS. Each dosha type has its own tendencies, especially when it becomes excessive, and must be balanced out through diet. Someone prone to inertia, malaise, obesity, etc must eat foods that help to stimulate energy in order to balance them out. These people generally cannot do much sweet stuff at all, as it contributes to their condition. I have found many answers and regained much health from following Ayurvedic principles. What's neat is, it's not a " one-diet-fits-all " , or " this-is-what-everyone-should-do " kind of diet. It's not a fad. It's roughly 10-12 THOUSAND years old. And it's unique to each person. For any more info, email me directly, there's a wonderful book I use that I recommend to ppl who are interested in this.
