Guest guest
Hi Victor - I've seen you ask about this a couple of times. You're not being ignored, really....I think perhaps no one is quite sure of recommendations for you. Perhaps Doc S will see this and have some ideas....or other knowledgeable members of this group. Have you tried anything besides the zinc? Sorry I couldn't help... Jeanne >Message: 7 > Fri, 18 Nov 2005 18:49:06 -0000 > " drphytond " <drphytond >Geographic Tongue > >Hello, >I have a Geogr. Guest guest
It might be an allergy. Food allergies get tricky, because sometimes the allergic reaction isn't actually to the food, but possibly a chemical such as pesticides, artificial flavorings or colors, etc. My husband thought that he had developed an allergy towards sea food, but he found out that some of the restaurants use fake clams in their clam chowder or fake crab in their seafood salad. It is actually the artificial flavoring that he has problems with. His tongue gets deep creases, his mouth swells up, and sometimes he vomits. Each time that happened, I bet he wished that he ate the lunch that I packed for him instead of going out with the guys from work! Not very good advertising for the restaurants either!!! Both my husband and my father have problems with any tomatoes and watermelons that are not organic. I even developed blisters on my tongue last year when I bought some tomatoes from a local produce stand. It ends up that their tomato crop did not do very well, so they brought some up from Mexico. I'm not sure what type of chemical was on them, but my mouth burned on the first(and only) bite that I took. My mom is allergic to artificial yellow 5 & 6. She breaks out in hives and gets a severe headache and stomach ache. I could go on and on about people having reactions to chemicals such as aspertame/nutrisweet, msg, etc, but I'm sure you have heard about them. Now onto actual food allergies. There are many of those as well. There are several types of reactions that people can have to them. I guess the best thing for you to do is to start keeping a food journal. I found Geographic or patchy tongue in just one of my books, and it said that the two main causes are allergies or yeast(usually from frequent or prolonged courses of antibiotics. If it is the latter of the two, it is usually easy to correct by eating a good quality plain yogurt, or by taking acidophilous capsules. Also cutting back on sugary foods that the yeasts thrive on. Hope I have been of some help...sorry that I didn't have a quick cure. Take care, Teresa herbal remedies , " drphytond " <drphytond> wrote: > > Hello, > I have a Geogr. Guest guest
My 7 yr old son has a geographic tongue. It occurred a year ago during a bout of severe virus. He has never said that it bothered him in anyway. I've just been under the impression that it's a type of scarring. I've never even thought to look it up. Guest guest
I had a geographic tongue when I was ill. I was ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) for eleven years. During that time, in addition to the geographic tongue, my tongue was VERY sensitive to hot/spicy foods and acidic foods. Now that I am healthier (far more than just being over CFS), I no longer have the geographic tongue. I don't know what your overall state of health is, but I think geographic tongue is mostly an indication of poor health. Maybe concentrating on improving your overall health will help your tongue.
