Guest guest
Hi Teri, Having just gone through all these questions myself (I have a lump in my breast) I can answer that question: A mammogram is an XRay - XRays can speed up a cancerous tumour, so is definitely NOT a good idea. An Ultrasound CAN safely identify a lump. Perhaps not the first time, but if you get it re-done in another 6 months after the first one, a good technician CAN identify the lump simply by its behaviour over those 6 months. The ONLY way to immediately 100% identify as to whether a tumour is benign or malignant is an biopsy. However, a biopsy carries a risk if the tumour is malignant: before the biopsy, the tumour is an enclosed lump of cells - it encloses itself with a safety net so to speak to protect itself. Puncturing this protective net will open the tumour, allowing it to spread (fast) to other areas!! So, this is not recommended LOL. Naturopathically, there is no difference in the program in handling a tumour, whether it is benign or malignant the program is the same. So therefore it is not necessary to know the difference. I have struggled hard and long over the last 4 months: I really, really wanted to know whether I had/have cancer, but just was never prepared to take the risk of the biopsy, so I still don't know. But judging by its behaviour, and by what the technician told me when I had the scan done, I don't think it is. When I went to the hospital initially, I had 3 different staff trying to persuade me to have the mammogram and biopsy!! Definitely lots of pressure to bear on me, but I continued to refuse. Later I found out from my GPs office that in actual fact a mammogram is not totally necessary (they just like to do one to make their job easier), as a scan really can tell more than what they let on!! Anyhow, the safest bet is still Doc's Incurables Program!! love Lisa - ABellaSoul herbal remedies Tuesday, November 15, 2005 4:53 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Help with pap smear-mammogram Then can I ask who just went though an ordeal of having a mamagram and them finding a lump but THANKGOD it was nothing. Guest guest
Good for you Pat. Mammograms and Pap Smears, when used indiscriminitly are DANGEROUS. If you don't have a lump or bump already there, why worry about it. When I hear Medicos tell women that they should get a Mammogram and a Pap smear every year or every six months, I'm disgusted. These can CAUSE Cancer. It is Medical abuse. Who knows your body better than you????????? Guest guest
I just wanted to recommend a book: " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer " by Dr. John Lee. I read this book soon after my mom died of inflammatory breast cancer (not detectable by mammogram) and it convinced me not to ever get another mammogram. Besides the fact that my gynecologist said that since my mom died of breast cancer, I needed a mammogram every year. Did he not get the point that the type of cancer she had was not detectable in mammograms. Or maybe he didn't get the point that she got the cancer because she was put on Prempro (proven to cause cancer soon after her diagnosis) for four years for bone strength (they eventually found out she didn't have osteoporosis). It's all a game of statistics and which way you want to interpret them. From what I read in the book, women are not living longer because of mammograms. Mammograms are picking up more ductal cancer which is usually not a problem and very curable and not picked up before mammograms were done. You add these statistics into the regular breast cancer statistics and you get more " cures. " I don't think I'm explaining it well but read the book. Guest guest
Dear Teri, A cancerous tumor is very hard like a marble, where an infected milk duct or swollen glands are soft. I tend to go by the overall health of an individual and somewhat operate on the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" type of attitude when it comes to this sort of thing. Another old adage that is applicable is, "If you go looking for trouble, you'll usually find it". If you focus on health, happiness and keeping your life non stressful, you'll find you'll cruise through your day. Another thing. Stop watching so damned much TV!!!!!!!!!! You shouldn't eat garbage, so why let it into your mind. The doom and gloom portrayed by the Merchants of Chaos is enough to get the toughest of us down. All the News on TV is bad. If it isn't terrorists, it's Avian Bird Flu, or Hurricanes or ... You get the idea. Try keeping the TV turned off for a two week period. You'll feel much better and far more productive. If you've got kids, get some Scrabble games or other board games and start doing family type stuff. TV is deadly!!!!!! In Health and Love, Doc PS. Guest guest
You explained it beautifully Jackie. Thanks for the input. In Health and Love, Doc Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - J. I read this book soon after mymom died of inflammatory breast cancer (not detectable by mammogram)and it convinced me not to ever get another mammogram. Besides thefact that my gynecologist said that since my mom died of breastcancer, I needed a mammogram every year. Did he not get the point thatthe type of cancer she had was not detectable in mammograms. Or maybehe didn't get the point that she got the cancer because she was put onPrempro (proven to cause cancer soon after her diagnosis) for fouryears for bone strength (they eventually found out she didn't haveosteoporosis). It's all a game of statistics and which way you want to interpretthem. From what I read in the book, women are not living longerbecause of mammograms. Mammograms are picking up more ductal cancerwhich is usually not a problem and very curable and not picked upbefore mammograms were done. You add these statistics into the regularbreast cancer statistics and you get more "cures." I don't think I'mexplaining it well but read the book.Jackie

Guest guest
I have told my children that the best advice I can give them for raising their own children is to get rid of the TV. It's such garbage and our children just drink it in. It's no wonder we live in such a crazy world. Terri - " Pat M.
