Guest guest
Dear Susan, You're in luck. Another one of my top students is Rob Combis from across the river in New Jersey. His number is: 203-820-9016 Give him a call when you get the chance. As far as becoming legit is concerned. This is a difficult area. Right now Naturopaths are either being attacked or are being shepherded into becoming Medical Doctor wannabees such as the graduates of Bastyr who are being taught invasive therapies. Kinda sad. Best is to set yourself up as a teacher and do workshops so that you are not doing a one on one practice which can get you into deep doo doo in certain places. At this time there are only 4 states where you can practice with impunity and those are New Mexico, Montana, Idaho, and I think Nebraska if I remember correctly. At this time Bastyr is trying to get a monopoly on the entire Naturopathic field. More criminal Medico Bullshit in my books. Doc Christopher's School of Natural Healing is one of the very best out there. My alma mater Trinity College is also very good but not quite as good as ole Doc's. The SoNH only offers a MH degree though so it depends if you want to get that ND after your name or not. Personally, I'd hire a graduate of Doc Christopher's school with an MH degree over a graduate of my own school - Trinity simply because of the herbal specialization. My own personal opinion is, "to hell with standardization and accreditation and licensure". The whole system is corrupt and schools like Doc's and Trinity and Clayton are the only ones left with any integrity whatsoever. You have to turn yourself into a sponge of sorts and just absorb as much as you can. Then do your best to filter out the bad from the good. This in itself gets to be quite a trick. ;-) Hope this helps. Guest guest
There is a naturopath I know of here in Nebraska but he got his chiropractic license so that is what he is advertised as. He does recommend natural remedies and has bought/sold some of my soaps back when I made them. I did some research since I had requested information from Doc Christopher's school and I can't find any information as to whether a naturopath can set up their own business AS a naturopath or not here in this state. I have been considering going for the MH degree but if it is illegal to practice, then the idea of "teaching" sounds good.. but how to market that skill is something I can't figure out yet. Someone suggested I get my RN degree and then I would have some "credentials" but all the RNs I know are accountable to a MD and would not be able diagnose a problem.. and I have a serious lack of trust of most MDs so the thought of having to become an RN is a bit daunting to say the least <G> My "herbal knowledge" so far has been in teas and aromatherapy... this list has a plethera of information that I find invaluable. Guest guest
I would love one also, I live in Acwoth, GA.. I looked at Doc. Christopher's site and didn't see any training there for a ND, just a master herbalist. Which I want to to also. Was I looking in the wrong spot? Guest guest
Wellllllllllll, yer in luck Teri. Another one of my top students is Kelli Bever though she lives to the north of you in Milpitas, (at least the phone calls should be cheaper ;-) Her number is: 408-945-1879 In Health and Love, Doc Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - ABellaSoul herbal remedies Monday, November 14, 2005 6:04 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Digest Number 4205 I would love one myself I live in Ca San fernando Valley any here? Guest guest
Not so easy a question Teri. Would need to know your diet and personal habits for the past week. No cheating and list all your tid bits you normally wouldn't think of including any smoking habits, Chocolate, Coffee, Black Teas, Alcohol, etc. You need to stop thinking along the allopathic Medico lines of "ohhhhhh, you have a headache??? Here, take this aspirin" as if you had an Aspirin deficiency or something. This condition you're talking about didn't "just happen". You did everything necessary to bring it about. Remember, there are Toxic Foods, Toxic Drink, Toxic Jobs, and Toxic Relationships. Sometimes an illness is connected to every single one of the above. Guest guest
Dear Terri, It is a problem for sure. I'd definitely go for that MH degree from Doc Christopher's school if I were you. The education you'll get there is invaluable. As I said in an earlier post, I'd hire anyone who had a degree from his school. There are ways of getting around "Practicing" directly. One of the things that needs to be overcome is our need for approval by the establishment. We need to stop thinking in Medico / Pharmaceutical terms and create our own standards. The Medico approach is to hang out one's shingle and start seeing people on a one on one basis, getting into diagnosing and then evaluating a prognosis of people's physical problems. Naturopaths have fallen into the same midguided pattern and in the end have become Medical Doctor wannabees to some degree. The original definition of the word doctor is derived from the Latin word, "Docare" which means, "To Teach". Wellllllllll, this is what we need to get back to. My most successful action in the past was to run "Workshops" where several to a dozen or two people showed up. This was done in a school room type environment and everyone could contribute to what was happening. What are the Medicos going to do if they find you in a class room full of people where everyone is contributing to the "self education". There's not a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting into trouble with this kind of scenario. Just gotta git off of the Medico idea and concept of being in "Practice" Besides, workshops and a group environment are so much more fun. :-) Soooooooooo, get your education from where you can (self if you have to) and get busy. It's nice to be able to hang a certificate on the wall, but it's not the be all end all. Dr. Richard Schulze doesn't have a "DR's" certificate from any school. He has no diploma other than his MH diploma he received from Doc Christopher. One day Ole Doc asked Schulzie if he was "teaching" to which Schulze responded "yes". Doc Christopher then told him, "Well then, you're a Doctor", and he's been Dr. Richard Schulze ever since. Just in case someone thinks I'm telling this story to denigrate Schulze, I wanna let you know that I feel Schulze knows more about the human body and health than 97% of all the Medical Doctors out there combined worldwide. I may not be crazy about him blaming 9-11 on organized religion and the fact that he promotes "SEX" way beyond necessary, but he knows Herbal Healing and Healing in general far better than any Medico. Soooooooo, the important factor I'm trying to get across is to simply get out there and TEACH!!! Hope this helps.
