Guest guest
Marlene, Do you think that back in the l6, l7 and l800's before the advent of soap that glove wearing was a manner people employed to stop the spread of germs.? I've often wondered about that. If so I wonder if gloves should make a comeback. Guest guest
I totally agree - and I have worn gloves allot more lately - like if I am at the mall shopping ( which is rare) I wear gloves - then I use the anti-bacterial soap before I go to eat out. I think door knobs and grocery carts - etc..... are silent " germ masters " . I was just at a super market and I changed baskets because the first basket had used blue Kleenex in the basket. YUK!!! I particularly wear gloves at the fuel pump. You have NO IDEA if these are EVER cleaned. I am a member of Curves - We use anti-bacterial hand sanitizer before each work out. I simply wear my washable gloves . My fiancé is a paramedic so we MIGHT be a bit more uneasy from the stories he brings home from work - (blood shed - IV's - drug users he has had to treat etc........) Unfortunately - he has known fellow workers who have contracted undesirable " things " . OK - I just wanted to share - Gloves are NOT a bad thing. MKH - " Pat M. Guest guest
MKH When I have to go to the store or Walmart or something, I wipe my cart handle with an anticeptic wipe, like you get at the dr.s office or use in the ambulance. My husband has collected plenty of those things from getting tattoos, and I've picked some up at the pediatricians office too. They are convenient to keep in the car or my purse. Sometimes after shopping with the kids, as soon as we get in the car I hand one to each of them. Guest guest
I wanted to mention that anti-bacterial soaps and hand lotions are not a good option. The over-use of antibiotics is causing drug-resistant strains of bacteria plus I remember reading that the ingredient in these products is toxic when mixed with chlorine which is present in most water supplies. One option is a hand sanitizer that contains alcohol although hand washing with soap will do the trick. Guest guest
And how about those handeled restaurant menus, and table condiment containers. :0 Decide what you want from the menu BEFORE using the restaurant for hand washing. --- " J. Guest guest
Wearing gloves? wiping doorknobs? C'mon, let's not get paranoid. That's the Howard Hughes syndrome. The most common " anti-bacterial " used nowadays is Triclosan, a petrochemical pesticide. Its used in lots of stuff... soaps, sanitizers, dishsoaps, cutting boards, sponges, shower curtains, filters etc.... Triclosan has been found to convert to dioxin (a carcinogenic chemical) when exposed to sunlight in water, and when exposed to chlorine treated (city water and/or swimming pools), it produces significant quantities of chloroform (which is a " probable " carcinogen).... Since its used in so much stuff nowadays, there is great concern over it exacerbating the problems of " antibiotic resistance " . Any labels that states " antibacterial " , " antimicrobial " , " resists mold/mildew " , " resists odors " , " sanitizing " , etc. probably contains it, or a similar pesticide. Guest guest
I also agree that regular old soap and some scrubbing is best, especially since a lot of antibacterial soaps have pesticides. I blogged about this very subject this week. http://www.naturemoms.com/blog/2005/10/12/soap-pesticides/ Tiffany - > J. Guest guest
Antibacterial soap is nog garantee for clean hadns, and it is full of toxins. Those antiseptic wipes also. If you want to do something like this, make your own wipes. Put paper towel sheets in disitelled water that you added vodka and lemon essential oil. Store sheets in plastic zip bag.Debra Savage <gdwmn65 wrote: MKH When I have to go to the store or Walmart or something, I wipe my cart handle with an anticeptic wipe, like you get at the dr.s office or use in the ambulance. Guest guest
We are going here backwards. it is not the question how to avoid bacteria, it is the question how to fight them. Because you can NOT avoid them, they are everywhere, even in your sink, more than in your toilet. Sooooo, make sure your immune system is "up to date". Do cleansing and kill bacteria in your intestines, check your pH regularly. If you it is ok, don't worry about bacteria.
