Guest guest
Hi, Pardon my ignorance...but I was wondering~ What is the difference between Oregano EO and Wild Oregano EO? Is there a difference? Thanks. Kellianne ps: We are moving within the next month and I was wondering if anyone had any comments or suggestions on what I can do to rid the house of any previous-owner odors, germs, bugs, whatever. My husband and I haven't changed residences in nearly 20 years and I'm freaking out ever so slightly. We're naturally neat and live a clean, healthy lifestyle. Any replies will be greatly appreciated!
Guest guest
Hi Kellianne, Please don't call yourself ignorant! There is no such thing as a stupid question. I, personally, think that the term " wild oregano " is a marketing gimmick for some of the pricey/MLM essential oils on the market. There are basically three species of Oregano used in the essentialoil industry, with those being further categorized by chemo-type. The three are Origanum dubium, Origanum onites, and Origanum vulgare-these three are than categorized by whether they are a Carvacrol orLinalool chemo-type. Oil of Oregano is one of the most powerful oils available! As far as disinfecting your new home, diffusing Oregano essential oil would definately kill any air-borne pathogens, but since it is a big- time skin irritant it should not be used topically. For thisreason,I would recommend you use any of the citrus essential oils (lemon, orange, pink grapefruit) and/or any of the Melalucas (tea tree, naiouli, etc.) for use in a 2% dilution (base of distilled water) for any topical use. This could be sprayed on any hard surface (leave on for ten minutes, then wipe with a damp cloth) and also on any carpeting and furnature (TEST FOR COLORFASTNESS FIRST!) If you would like source guidance or more info, please feel free to contact me privately! > What is the difference between Oregano EO and Wild Oregano EO? > > appreciated! Guest guest
Hi, Pardon my ignorance...but I was wondering~ What is the difference between Oregano EO and Wild Oregano EO? Is there a difference? Thanks. Kellianne Kellianne, There are several different Oregano EO's. You need to refer to them by their 'botanical' names, so you can tell them apart. Sometimes they mean that the Oregano is 'wild grown', even if it's the same 'botanical' class. Here's a list of the Oregano EO's that I know of. Origanum Dubium (Carvacrol type) (Carvacrol 73.49%) Origanum Dubium (Linalool type) (Linalool 67.65%) Origanum Onites (Carvacrol 68.11%) Origanum Vulgare (Carvacrol 84.43%) I personally prefer the Origanum Vulgare species, as it seems to work much better for me. I am assuming it's because it's higher in Carvacrol than the others. I am sure there are many more species of Oregano. There's also Origanum marjorana, which is Sweet Marjoram EO. Same family of herb, but it isn't oregano. Hope this helps explain a little bit.
